Food/Quality ✔️ Waitress/Server ✔️ Host/Hostess 🚫❌💣 Upon walking in after a long day of hiking Pilot Mountain as I am a local & generally enjoy this Mayflower location, all looked like a daycare with children in time out. No music, absolute uncomfortable silence pair with NO smiles or a sign of friendly greetings. Approaching the host stand to be seated, a non caucasian, petite with glasses disappointed "employee" playing on her phone probably on tik tok because sadly the world revolves around the negative of social media these days, made eye contact with myself in disappointment as if she did not wish to be there nor be "working" as she had her phone in her hand as I stood in front of her. I spoke & told her it was simply myself, she asked I wished to have a booth or a table, I said booth please as she walked with an attitude, myself to a table instead. I said thank you because the energy was OFF already and didn't wish to pose a problem but the problem was clear she did not want to be within the restaurant.
Feedback is everything, well should be. I brought the following to the attention of the waitress/server and I was "enlightened" with she's new.. she's.. "shy" and to top things off I was told this is just her "personality" and the staff of the restaurant has tried to break her of such.. Not only did the waitress tell myself the following but the owner as well. So, the following is a known issue therefore myself is not the only to point out the flaws of this individual within the following restaurant, establishment. I understand what the definition of shy is, I also understand personality traits and those two excuses are simply that. Excuses. It's clear this young, very young woman holding down the host stand and seating many long time regulars including myself is nothing but a nuisance to the environment here at Mayflower.
I will NOT be returning.
This experience truly pushes great customers away and should be handled accordingly. There is a difference between protecting employees and making excuses. The following excuses were poor.
The only employee that shared a smile was not taking care of my table, unfortunately but had pigtails, possible braided hair Sunday evening. To her, thank you for smiling. You eased the uncomfortable environment while I ate my early dinner after a long day. You will go far in life, just keep smiling even when others refuse. You are...
Read moreI didn't have a terrible experience, but another customer did while I waited in the take-out line. Apparently, they ordered food and it was not correct... Upon calling the restaurant back, they were told to bring the plates back and the order would be corrected. I am not sure what was ordered but it lacked items in both boxes, according to the customers. Managment said that they would not replace the items, because they wanted it all back! They actually took the boxes from the customer and did not return them. Hello!!!! Who does that? Were they to throw-up their dinners and return everything? I think not...
To add insult to injury, the customers drove from Winston Salem, not once, not twice, but three times. They purchased the food the first time, then the female returned the order and later the male came, because they took their food and refused to give a refund or to fix the order.
I would have been pretty hot too... Instead of displaying great customer service and handling the order with respect and tact, the exact opposite happened. He called the Sheriff's department and preceeded to badger the customer. This is simply not acceptable. He brought their to-go boxes back on a tray and proceeded to talk with a ruthlessness that I have never seen in a customer oriented business...
My guess is that he felt empowered by the fact that he had serveral sheriff deputies to make sure he did not jump over the counter. He certainly did not appear until the sheriff appeared. He stated that he was the owner. I saw him as a coward, who lacked customer service, tact, or general respect for his fellow man. I was truly dumbfounded by what I watched.
Needless to say, I didn't purchase food from that establishment, though I craved fish that night. I encourage others not to patronize them either. That could have been me or anyone for that matter. Customer service is very important, especially when you are dealing with the public. Never mind the slogan, " the customer is always right..." How about just being nice, polite, respectful...everyone deserves that and no business should be above extending it, under any circumstance!!!
So stay away... stay away from the Rural Hall...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant many times and it used to be my favorite place to eat, but things have changed with this place. They have gone up on their prices and down on their food portions and the service is definitely lacking. Also, if you order something and they are out of it, they will bring you something that is close or similar and swear up and down that, that is what it is, when you clearly know that it is not. This happened to me, I ordered a large plate of baby flounder, they brought me regular flounder and even charged me on the ticket for regular flounder.....which is not what I wanted. I asked them about it and they swore up and down that it was baby flounder, it's just that all of the fish that they had received lately was bigger and they didnt know why.....Have you ever heard of something so stupid??? Then I sent the plate back and changed my order to a large clam strips plate and they sent me out a small plate but I was charged for a large plate. I drove 40 miles to take my family out to eat here on a Sunday afternoon, did not get the food I ordered, and what is worse is that they treated me like I was an idiot and never did anything to make any of it right. I was very disappointed. I can understand if you are out of a certain item that the customer wants, but you should come to them and tell them and allow them to order something else, NOT try to fool them or slip one over on them, and the absolute worst thing was when we were checking out, there was an older lady doing the check out, who I believe was the owner's wife and when she asked if everything was ok with our meals, I told her it wasnt and she proceeded to check us out and asked no further questions, which tells me that this place simply does not care about it's customers. Just a sad and disappointing experience all together and it will take a long while before I go back. They just made my family's decision about where to go and eat, ALOT...
