I am usually a fan of Umami when I eat there but this was probably the worst takeout experience I've ever had with a restaurant. My work group ordered Umami takeout for lunch. A coworker and I ordered volcano rolls. When the food arrived at our work we realized that what we got looked like basic california rolls with seaweed wrap inside, none of the fixings that were described in the menu that come on the Volcano roll. When my co-worker called to explain that our orders were wrong they refused to fix it or refund it and was told she must have not ordered that roll before; which it is, in-fact, the roll she orders every time and had never been wrong in the past. She explained this and was still blamed for the incorrect order, even though the menu clearly states what should be on the roll, and they had no intention to fix it. I personally am not too offended when orders are wrong, I understand it happens, but their lack of customer service in the situation is what was so unacceptable to me. So we basically paid double the price for some california rolls. To add the cherry on top of this bad experience, realizing nothing was going to be done on their part to correct our lunches we were going to eat what we got, but I couldn't even eat it. I ate one piece of sushi and the rice was hard and dry, the seaweed wrap inside was so dry it was like chewing on plastic and the roll just seemed old like it had been sitting out for a long time. I understand sometimes you get bad meals from places, but the fact they made no attempt to fix it and just blamed the customer made me lose respect for this business. I will not be back, nor can I recommend this place in good faith to...
Read moreI have visited Umami many times over many years. As a matter of fact, I've been a huge fan since Johnny and his mom first opened in Russellville. It was so successful, they had to move out of the small building they started in over my Arkansas Tech and over to the other side of town in the much larger old Triple Crown Chinese Restaurant building. After being successful in their new building, they actually opened another great place in Conway. It's an amazing place as well, but that's for a whole different review.
I haven't been able to visit the Russellville Umami in probably 5 or so years, until this afternoon, for dinner service. They have remodeled a bit and opened the space up since I last visited. Despite looking different from how I remember, it still felt like home.
I've been to sushi joints all over the United Steaks of America--many of them top notch. Let me say, even after a good five years, this place is still one of my favorites. In the past, I've ordered takeout countless times and eaten in many times as well. The staff is always super friendly, and helpful, and today was no different. This afternoon, we ordered the sushi dinner for three as well as a couple of other sushi rolls. Not twenty minutes after ordering, our table was packed with beautifully arranged sushi platters. The portions were generous and it was so delicious!
Despite being quite busy, our server made sure we were happy and taken care of at all times. Thanks for the great service, Ben. And thank you Chef, for the great sushi. We will be...
Read moreA group of friends & I went to Umami’s for a birthday dinner. A friend ordered a sushi roll, specifically asking whether it contained raw meat (she can’t have any) & was told that it didn’t. The only meat it contained was shrimp, but it was fried. When she received her sushi, there were pieces of raw salmon on each slice. The owner began delivering our meals to the table. Two out of three of the first set of meals brought out were wrong. We told her that we thought maybe she had the wrong table. She was very rude, telling us that it was the right table & the right food. We were not provided with enough silverware, until about 10 minutes after our meals arrived. We each ordered yum yum sauce with our meals & were not provided with it until we were almost halfway finished with our meals. At the end of the night, the friend that received the wrong sushi roll asked if she could not pay for the untouched sushi. The owner belittled her, as well as the waitress.
It wasn’t even worth 1 star, honestly. I will not be eating here ever again, despite how good the food...
