Captain Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Sacramento

The BBC (British Broadcast Corporation) of Fish & Chips! That is a 12-inch ruler in the photo, and edge-to-edge these pieces exceed 11 inches. I am not frequently placated, let alone impressed. This place now holds the trophy for my North American fish and chips experience. Having lived in Great Britain decades ago, I miss the newspaper-wrapped fish and chips so perfectly prepared by the cankle-women. I ordered the Cod 3-Piece, expecting smaller portions. I did not receive smaller portions. I received satisfaction down to my soul. Perfection. And the batter: they nailed it! They even thoughtfully included malt vinegar, as well as three cups of tartar sauce (one of which I annihilated in an unrelated rage -- that comes and goes, you know?). Despite whatever djinn that keeps me a prisoner in the spirit-crushing Midwestern ennui-fountain of California that is Sacramento, I now have a second reason to live, beyond my favorite chili cheese fries place on Broadway. Well played, Captain! (Oh, and bag was appropriately sealed with staples...

UPDATED: April 9,2024 I walked into an entirely different staff. I believe this must be new owners. Food was way different. I could clearly tell the difference in the taste. To add insult to injury they only give you a handful of those god awful fries now. I ordered the one piece cat fish again and I could immediately notice the change in flavor. It was cooked way too hard and lacked any notice of salt. Going to have to change my review based on my recent visit. Sorry, not sorry! Better than JJ's, better than Skips, better than Ray's... you have been delivered. That catfish is IT ..but, I really want them to work on their "fries"...just maybe not refry mines so they're so dark and hard. The cook wore her mask 😷, I witnessed her wash her hands, this was all good. If I were to take away a star, it would be for my mozzarella sticks we're a little dry. But I appreciate that I got a good meal in the hood....

Although its not on the best side of town the food was delicious. I always order the same thing at different fish and chips places only because i like to see the difference in how it is prepared. I order CALAMARI DINNER and have to say this is one of the best fish and chips restaurants I've been to. The calamari wasn't chewy or round or small. The pieces are tender, easy to bite into and don't pull out from the breading. The service was professional and took a few minutes but its because there were a steady flow of customers coming in. It was good & if I have to go to that side of town again, I know where to eat. I felt safe and happy with being able to eat inside.
