We love Indian food but for some reason some Indiam people do not like Black people. I came in with my daughter from out of town to love her in to UC Davis. Imagine my excitement when I find this restaurant driving around with my kids!
First, there was a gentleman who I swear looked like he stepped right off set of a Bollywood movie! We let him go ahead of us. She took his ordered and immediately left. So we waited. She didn't come back. A young man moving food happened to come and saw us waiting, asked if we were ready. He left to get the girl. She came, she was NOT happy. We already knew what we wanted from thr menu. We ordered 2 Chicken Tikka plates (the chicken was dry as hell). I've had chicken Tikka before - we usually order from Ashoka The Great (they don't like Black people either ironically). She started explaining what it was. I politely said, "I know". I've been dying to try the Samosa Chaat after I learned about it from a book of all places. So I ordered that. She once again started explaining. I said, "I know". Then I ordered a mango lassi....and again....the explaining but I interjected to let her know my daughter and I eat Indian food all the time. In fact, if I could cook it, that would be what I eat all the time. I digress. Anyway, finished ordering and sat down to wait.
Both my daughter and I watched as this same girl brought everyone's order out to them at their tables. At least 4 different people. When it came to us, she sat the food on the counter and called out it was ready. I immediately asked her for staws because I knew she didn't give us any. She made a big deal of checking the bags as we just sat there watching. This was insulting because SHE KNEW she didn't put them in the bag. Like come on. She said, "oops" and gave us the stars. Smh.
Am I mad? No. My daughter and I are used to this type of treatment from this community. And it's ok. One of my best friends introduced me to Indian food and she was the kindest, most beautiful woman I've ever met. I love you Dulmini. She would cook for us all the time. So when I meet other people who are Indian and they mistreat us, I just think about her. The food was good except the dry chicken.
Will I go back? of course. I don't know what happened to this young girl or her experience with other Black people but whatever happened, I'm sorry. So if you're reading this, just know you're beautiful and I appreciate you working last night to take our order. I'm gonna come back because despite my perception of what happened, I doesn't matter. Food will always bring people together, I hope this time is...
Read moreIf you're a fan of chaat, you'll definitely want to check out Chaat Kafe in Sacramento. I recently had the chance to visit the restaurant while on a long drive with some friends, and I have to say, I was really impressed by the delicious and flavorful chaat dishes on offer.
The Samosa Chaat and Alu Tikki were both standout items - the chutney added an extra layer of flavor to both dishes, and the Alu Tikki was fried to perfection and had a crispy texture.
The Paneer Tandoori Roll was also a hit, and the Tandoori naan was tightly rolled and packed with huge chunks of paneer, Alu Tikki pieces, lettuce, and other sauce. All in all, we spent around $30+ for the three items, which I thought was a good value for the quality of the food. The seating was also decent, with plenty of tables and chairs to choose from.
In addition to the chaat dishes, they also had biryani options, but I wasn't sure how they would taste so I decided to skip them. Overall, I had a fantastic dining experience at Chaat Kafe and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some tasty and satisfying chaat in Sacramento. Trust me, you won't be...
Read moreI’d give them negative stars if I could! Rude customer service and food isn’t good. I placed and order for butter naans and shahi paneer. The paneer tasted like they put sugar in it! All you can taste was sweetness (even after I requested it to be mild spicy). The naans didn’t have butter on them!! When I called To explain the issues, the women was extremely rude and didn’t want to admit they had screwed up! She kept on telling me that “we never cut our naans without butter, and that I am mistaking-and there is butter on the naans”!! I told her that I’m looking at the naans, they are dry as a bone! She didn’t wanna listen, at that point I just hung up the phone. I’ve had my share of Indian food, and this wasn’t tasting like it at all. I wouldn’t recommend this place…spend your money...
