We tried Hunan for the first time based upon good online reviews. Unfortunately, it will be the last time we dine here. We ordered chicken chop suey, General Tso’s chicken, and steak and shrimp chop suey. There was a $2 up charge for wonton soup, which I ordered anyway even though wonton is usually a standard at any Chinese restaurant. The waiter said,” We only serve wonton in a bowl.”They offer egg drop and hot and sour soup, that’s Included in your meal, but I don’t really like either of those soups. The wonton was very salty. Normally, there’s spinach or some type of greens in wonton. There were peas and carrots, like you’d get in a frozen bag at the supermarket. Oh, and the soup was not hot, but about room temperature. When the food arrived, it was not hot either. The waiter asked if I had ordered chicken in my chop suey. I said, “No, only steak and shrimp. He took my dish back to the kitchen. I’m sure they just picked out the chicken pieces, and didn’t add any more shrimp or meat, because I had way less food on my plate when the waiter returned and it wasn’t warm. My husband’s General Tso’s had absolutely no vegetables. Normally, it is served with broccoli.and chicken and a side of fried rice. This restaurant is very sub par. Saginaw needs more than one good Chinese restaurant (Panda House is about the only good one!) The best part of this restaurant is the free parking...

To me and my family, Hunan Restaurant offers the best Chinese food in Saginaw.
The ambiance is wonderful—you truly feel immersed in a relaxing Chinese atmosphere. The service is exceptional, with one of the owners—she is especially kind, welcoming, and friendly. Our server, Ms. Sophie, was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and patient, which added so much to our dining experience. The house Jasmine tea was, as always, delightful.
The food was absolutely delicious! From the starters, such as the flavorful egg drop soup or the hot & sour soup paired with crispy wonton chips, to the appetizers like the egg roll or my personal favorite, the crab cheese rangoons. The presentation of our food and appetizers was great, adding an extra touch to the dining experience. The entrées were equally impressive. The sweet & sour chicken with veggies served with the sauce on the side, and the white rice was perfectly cooked. I also love the sweet & sour sauce—it’s the perfect balance of tangy and sweet! The general chicken with fried rice was another standout dish.
While we spent around $11+ per person, it was well worth it for the quality, flavor, and overall...
Read moreVery nice restaurant with real table service. At Hunan they care about ambiance and presentation. The decor was full blown Chinese with traditional Chinese luxury color scheme of gold walls with deep red seating with black lacquer accents. The dinning room was almost dimly lit which set a warm relaxed intimate mood. The waiters and waitresses wore crisp white dress shirts with Tuxedo bow ties. The tables were set with real white linen table cloths covered with acrylic protectors.
My tea came in a teapot so I could refill my tea as I desired. I did come in at lunch time and ordered the days lunch special...as you can see from my pix it was a nice sized portion. It is hard NOT to compare the tremendous value of a traditional sit down lunch at fast food pricing...same price as a fast food lunch but with table service....drinks refilled at your own table and freshly prepared food just for you... If you find my review helpful please thumbs...
