I heard about the opening of the Saginaw location from a co-worker and wanted to give it a try. As a seafood (and food, in general!) lover, I was quite excited about trying The Tangy Crab. I was not disappointed! My brother accompanied me and we were there on January 31st, shortly after opening. I ordered the seafood marinara and was blown away at how good it was. The mussels and shrimp were perfectly cooked; no easy feat! The marinara sauce was slightly smoky, reminiscent of maybe a smoked sausage stewed in the sauce (no sausage was in the dish, though). It was reasonably priced, and I'm salivating thinking about eating it again.
I can't comment on any of the seafood boils... I would like to try them, but the allure is lost on my seafood-adverse brother. Instead of the fruit de la mere, he had the chicken tender basket with french fries and was very pleased. Our crab rangoon appetizer elicited a groan of pleasure and a "these are the best I've had in a long time" remark from said fraternal unit.
All-in-all, while there were some hiccups in service, being as our waitress was training a new server, and they forgot to bring out silverware and napkins until well after our food was presented, they were attentive and refilled our glasses rather promptly. The food was delicious. I will definitely come again and sample more of what The Tangy Crab...
Read moreThis place is very clean, has a relaxing atmosphere, and plenty of seating. The service was great, food came out pretty quick, hot and presented well. I do think this place is over priced however, somewhere you go for special occasions. I wouldn't suggest getting the crab ragoon as they are exactly like what you get at a typical Chinese restaurant, with no crab which was extremely disappointing. The butterfly shrimp tasted exactly like the kind that I buy from the frozen aisle and the grocery store, good but nothing special. The boil was absolutely delicious but for that price I would expect a little more seafood. Dessert items are extremely limited to cheesecake and chocolate cake, which didn't seem appetizing after seafood dinner. This place gets a good review for cleanliness, overall atmosphere, and because of the good service. She was quick to greet us and our food came out in a very timely manner so she was tipped well. I don't think I would ever go back though, even if it was for another special occasion. Not...
Read moreOrdered takeout from The Tangy Crab for Mother's Day for a family of four. It was very easy placing the order and we received everything ordered. They even bagged each order separately which was very helpful. The food was pretty average for crab boils and the catfish basket was decent as well. The boiled oysters with their special blend were extremely salty where we couldn't even eat them. Overall the food wasn't bad. However, things turned bad when my daughter discovered The Tangy Crab decided to take a tip out on their own. At the bottom of the receipt are suggested tip amounts. I don't understand establishments requesting tips or even thinking a tip is necessary for takeout. Tipping isn't the problem at all it's the expectation and then taking it upon themselves charge us a tip. We're really good about tipping period. It's just the audacity that has put a really bad taste in our mouths. There was no special gratuity notice displayed. The Tangy Crab needs to explain and rectify...
