Very poor selection of evening dresses. I was shopping in September, and most of the gowns were more appropriate for summer weddings. The only few that would work for fall, were black (not good for a wedding) and gold. They were all very similar to each other, so you know that you are going to see others wearing these dresses at the same event. While I was there, I picked up another order that I had made online. Pickup is inconveniently located on the second floor!
UPDATE 8 MONTHS LATER: Don't get me wrong, I love JC Penney, and I am grateful that they have not abandoned our town. After 45 years of shopping in-person and online at every conceivable kind of store, I long ago learned not to buy bedding at any other store than Penneys. But.
I went there today to pickup an online (bedding) purchase. I parked on the salon side because I wanted curbside pickup (rather than trudging through the store to the second floor). I followed the instructions on their email, and the pages that enable curbside pickup never loaded. I went inside hoping that pick-up had (by now) been physically re-located to the old catalog pickup area, and discovered that it had not. I had to walk past the first escalator to the second escalator to start the ascension to the second floor. I then walked through home goods and stood in line, three deep. I got my purchase and retraced my steps - again having to pass the first escalator to get to the second one. I passed a line - 10 (frowning, frustrated, and impatient) people deep - in womens' clothing, and thought: This is why people choose to shop online. Worse yet, this was the lunch hour. Who has time for this?!?
I watched another customer hobble along with what appeared to be drop foot, and I thought: All this walking has got to be worsening her condition. If nothing else, Penneys needs to consider that it caters to the aging population and that it's time to rethink the store layout.

Read moreI ordered an item for the first time on JC Penny's website. At checkout I was provided the option to pay in 4 payments through a third party. I choose that option. The order processed and it seemed like that was that. An hour later I get an email from jcpenney saying that my order processed and my card was charged the full price. Interesting considering I never gave jcpenney my credit card info, only the third party. When I call jcpenny customer service for an explanation. I was told that there was nothing they could do because it had been longer than 30mins after the order then they told me that I couldn't cancel the order (past 30 mins). I told them that I didn't realize there was a problem until and hour after because i just got the email.They told me that was just the way the systems works Sometimes. Then they told me that they didnt offered third party options, but if they did I could take it up with them. So I got charged by both, jc Penny's took my cc info and customer service told me the best they could do is direct me to the closest store so I could return the item when it comes. And yes that was after asking to speak to a manager that was very rude. First time on jcpennys web site and the last... no wonder they are closing stores...

The next day I took it in to be sized and the lady said it was going to be 2-4 weeks and they would call when my ring came back in. Since I not heard anything, I decided to call yesterday. We live an hour away and , if it was there, we would make arrangements to go get it Saturday. The lady at the jewelry counter that answered the phone was one of the rudest customer service people I have ever encountered. In a very nasty tone, she proceeded to tell me she called everyone Wednesday who had something there and that she was too busy to check for me. Now, I get it...I work in customer service...you do get busy at times. But I have never had someone speak to me that way and make me feel like I shouldn't even be bothering them. My husband and I will not be spending our money here anymore. It was unnecessary and uncalled for and my husband is thinking about telling them to take their ring back!
