5 Stars – A Hidden Gem with Heart and Flavor
I had the pleasure of visiting Lydia's by Sugar and Spice this morning for a little family gathering with my aunt, uncle, and cousin after my cousin spotted it trending on social media—and what a delightful discovery it turned out to be.
From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere made it clear we were in for something special. The staff greeted us with genuine friendliness, setting the tone for what would become a cozy, two-hour visit filled with great conversation, laughter, and truly memorable bites.
We sampled an assortment of treats: one gooey butter cake cookie (as decadent as it sounds), a rich, fudgy brownie, a delicate and flavorful macaron, and what I can only describe as the star of the show—the cinnamon-Nutella-banana bread roll. It was unbelievably good—moist, perfectly spiced, with just the right amount of sweetness and that luscious swirl of Nutella tying it all together. I loved it so much, I grabbed two more to-go for my boyfriend (which, let’s be honest, was an act of love and restraint not to eat them myself on the way home).
Our coffees were well-crafted, and the mimosas were a refreshing complement to the indulgent treats. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance: relaxed, charming, and inviting enough that we completely lost track of time, chatting for over two hours without ever feeling rushed.
In a world of overhyped cafés, Lydia’s by Sugar and Spice is the real deal—thoughtfully crafted sweets, attentive service, and a space that genuinely makes you want to linger. I can’t wait to come back and try more. This place...
Read moreI have been to Lydias twice. Both times it was very busy and allot of customers. First visit I was a bit disapointed. Only one guy working counter, when I ordered hot tea he said he couldnt make it because it wasnt on the menu. It was deff on menu. Then he said I would have to wait 15 mins while he figured out how to make it. I suggested he could just get enough hot water for one cup and put a tea bag in it. He then looked totaly disoriented. He gave me the cake I ordered, but I had to wait 15 mins for my tea. Then my cake was stale. Not impressed. Thought I would give them a 2nd try today since they had just opened. The service was much better and the cake I had today was devine. The only thing that got to me was that the girl who took my order did not come out from behind the counter to bring me my drink. She handed it to a customer and told him to bring it to me! So I had a stranger off the street bringing me my drink. I didnt know if his hands were clean or if he was sick etc. At least your pretty sure a kitchen emlpoyee has washed thier hands recently. I really like the concept of this place, but they really need to train thier...

I was underdressed, but everyone was still nice to me. My tie dye t-shirt and denim shorts didn't fit in with the ladies in their winery dresses.
They did not have ice cream.
It may not be easily spotted from South River Road, so check where it is on your map if you are unfamiliar with the area. It's a convenient location near the Katy Trail, by the Bangert Island Trailhead. Perfect for Katy Trail bikers.
I tried some kind of raspberry lemon cake. The icing was really good. It'd be a good breakfast cake.
• I noticed some high chairs. • It's a fill a water cup yourself place. • My husband was happy with the temperature of his coffee.
I liked the landscaping on the hill and the view of Bangert Island. That pretty view will disappear when they develop Riverpointe, but it's there now. Enjoy it while it lasts.
They have lots of decorations inside that give a happy, colorful vibe. There's a garage door that was open today but could be shut in unpleasent weather. Just a warning, I heard there's a little walk to get to...
