If you want the wagyu experience you have heard about, this is not the place.
They sell a $125 Strip thats "American Wagyu", allegedly rated as a 'Gold', I have previously eaten wagyu steak at The Capital Grille and in LA which was Japanese a5 that was a life changing and undeniable experience.
The steak they are selling here is not that experience, not even close and to add insult to injury The Capital Grille wagyu was only priced at $92.
The story...
I had been in LA for 3 months for work, I wanted to get together with my friends and have them 'have the 'experience'. I made a reservation after calling and being assured this is the highest quality american wagyu.
We arrived and had to wait 10-15 mins, not the worst but 100% unexpected.
We ordered and it took what seemed to be an hour if not longer for our food to come out.
Once it did I knew just by the sight this wasn't going to be the same experience.
First off it was cooked incorrectly, I ordered medium rare and this was medium to medium well. Which if you had wagyu this is an insult.
If you have had wagyu you will know a knife cuts through it like butter, this was not the case, this steak was being cut like any $25-40 dollar steak you can get at a decent local vender.
I withheld my astonishment that this was not the steak I was expecting and went in for a bite.
If you know wagyu you know it has a extremely high fat / meat ratio and when cooked properly it will melt in your mouth sending a surge of flavor exploding in one's mouth causing an undeniable reaction.
When I ate this steak, it was not that, it was a incorrectly cooked basic NY strip, which had very chewy and tough fat content.
I was immediately appalled, I pushed the plate away and said this is not wagyu.
Soon the waitress came to my side shortly after the owner.
The owner sat and argued with me for 20+ minutes. When asked "Where I ate Wagyu before", and I said "Capital Grille" The Owner responded "This is the exact steak that The Capital Grille Serves"
Which is a bold face lie. Which was further proven when I asked them to bring out a steak still uncooked and the marble level was embarrassing.
This argument ruined every one of my guests meal and the rest of our night, he offered to not charge me for the steak, but didn't pick up the rest of the meal knowing full well our time was destroyed.
I don't think this is a bad restaurant, I think it is okay, if you want an elegant dining experience with top notch wait service, atmosphere, and the best food in STL this is not the place.
And again I say this is not the wagyu experience you're looking for.
In life there will always be issues, problems, and misunderstandings its not that they don't come up, its how they're handled, how Napoli handled them was poor, the fact our experience was ruined and we were all charged full price is sad.( Minus the price of my steak which wasn't eaten) Its not about the money its about the principle about taking responsibility,...
Read moreMy colleagues and I went on a business trip to St Charles with a few local here. Not many restaurants open on Monday so we pick with the high rated one. We had a horrible dining experience and customer service experience.
We ordered the salmon, the linguine seafood pasta and the calamari. The pasta was no near cooked and super plain so I had to add salt and pepper to it.
We then all experienced with an upset stomach and vomited all the food we ingested for the dinner after hours we left. We called the restaurant and the first thing we heard from them is not an apology and an offer to refund etc. Instead, they said they abide with all health codes and please feel free to report to the health department. They are not going to do anything to amend or compensate for our meal. This is probably the rudest customer experience I have ever had.
It’s not worth the price at all and you can find a better place for food in this area. Strongly discourage to come.
—— TO THE OWNER We honestly don’t care about the refund at all. All we want is an attitude and the restaurant just denied everything. The first call we made to the restaurant the person said “what do you want me to do” to us. It’s your responsibility to provide a solution not mine. Whoever pick up the first call and say the refund is an ultimatum, it’s the person’s issue not us. Also please feel free to make up the “either or” claim of refund as ultimatum. It’s not until the restaurant denied any of these responsibility to provide a solution on the concern that I feel like I need to write the review. To the end of this conversation, we have take necessary action as suggested and will not longer reply to any of these threads since it’s just wasting my...
Read moreWe went here for the first time since we usually go to cafe Napoli for our anniversary. It’s something we do every year but couldn’t get into cafe Napoli due to it being at max capacity. The space was very tight and we were seated in the middle aisle next to the bar. The noise level was very loud, much louder than what we are used too. After ordering our first bottle of wine and being told they were out of stock I was disappointed considering every table had a bottle of wine ready to use. We went ahead and ordered our dinner and our salads. Shortly after the waitress comes up again and tells me the next bottle of wine I have picked is out of stock and to try something that I’m basically not comfortable with especially when the glasses are $10+. I was at tears at this point but then it seemed as if our waiter was now avoiding us and not coming to check on us. The people at the bar were incredibly drunk and kept falling all over our table and attempting to make conversation with my husband which is fine if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic and every other word out of his mouth was f**. At this point when she finally checked on us again I asked if we could have our meal to go at least that way I could go home and enjoy my own bottle of wine. She agreed but then as we were leaving before walking up to our table I watched as she removed a container of broccoli from the bag that was suppose to go with my husbands meal. Needless to say he did not have any broccoli for his meal once we got home. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy and the attitude of the server...
