We arrived at Massa’s, February 24th, 2018 @ 4:23 p.m. with seven people in our party. We entered the establishment and noted the nearly empty building with a large amount of seating available. We were first sat at a small rectangle table for six people that was undersized for party of seven, but it wasn’t a big deal. As they placed a chair at the end of the table we all sat down. A few moments later a gentleman walked over and said we would have to move because this table was reserved. We again looked around at the nearly vacant room with no patrons waiting. Surely there was another table that they could set up a reservation for six. I guess not because we were asked to move to a round table with five chairs. They started to move two extra chairs to the small, cramped, round table, making it impossible for everyone to sit comfortably or even sit close enough to the table to eat. My wife asked if we could have back to back booths instead and the gentleman who moved us replied, “This is fine.” My wife explained it wouldn’t be fine as we couldn’t possibly even get seven chairs to fit around the small table. At this point a woman appeared from somewhere and said, “We can move these two high top tables together for you.” My wife again asked if we could have two back to back booths in the huge empty room with few patrons (my sister in law, who was dining with us, had ACL surgery a few weeks prior and couldn’t climb into the high bar stool type chair). The rude woman then replied, “You can sit at that round table or your only other option is this high top.” My wife was taken aback as I just stared at the woman as she was extremely rude. I then explained we would just dine somewhere else and started to leave. The woman then shrugged her shoulders like she could care less and turned to walk off. As I waited for everyone in my party to exit, I heard a gentleman, who I presumed to be the manager ask the woman why we were leaving. I heard her falsify the situation to him explaining that we just decided to leave. She had failed to explain that she gave us no other options and was extremely rude. We have eaten at Massa’s on several occasions and have been happy with the food and the service. We had spoken so highly of the restaurant we finally talked our friends into making the two hour trip to have dinner with us. We were extremely embarrassed that we even recommended Massa’s and that they were witness to such behavior by an establishment that we had highly praised. We will no longer eat at this establishment after the manner in which we were treated. I would also suggest that if you want to eat here and have more than six in your party, you eat somewhere else, as they obviously have the inability to accommodate a...
Read moreThis is an update to my previous review. Massa’s St. Charles is a beautiful restaurant with an amazing ambiance. The service is always above and beyond. Especially if you’re lucky enough to get a seat at the bar. Jacob and Montana really know how to pour a decent mixed drink. Neither one of them would know how to a pour a bad drink if they tried. My sister and our lady friends used to meet at this place 4-6 x a month back when they had their amazing Happy Hour from 3-6PM; Half price appetizers, 2 for 1 rail drinks, and various specials on draft beers. But they changed all that! Now it’s only $2 off certain appetizers and NO drink specials! We still visit every now and then, maybe every 6-8 weeks or so. Mostly because we love their soups and that’s all we can afford now, AND, because we miss Jacob and Montana! In addition, the last time me and my boyfriend and I had dinner there he ordered the Tutta Mare Seafood Pasta. It was supposed to have sea clams, scallops, mussels, fresh mushrooms, and tomatoes. This dish only had ONE sea clam, 2 very small scallops, and 3 small shrimp that wasn’t even supposed to be in there! I/we still LOVE this place. But what the heck is going on here? We’ve been frequenting Lewis & Clark on Main Street instead. They have an awesome Happy Hour that goes until 7pm with a fantastic bartender named Muna. Dom needs to do better! Step it up buddy. Just saying 🤷
This is usually one of our favorite places to have lunch but not this time. Although the service was excellent, I have to give it a 3 this time because the food was aweful. Something has changed. Everything was very salty. My boyfriend sent his seafood casserole back because he couldn't even eat it. And he's like Mike'y. He'll eat anything. Haha. They brought him canaloni instead. But that was very salty to. So was my clam chowder. Please change it back Massas. You had it perfect the first time!
Update: May 4, 2023. My sister and I enjoyed this place numerous times over the past several months for Happy Hour. Half price appetizers. The 6 meatballs are big, fat, and absolutely Amazing! Jacob, the bartender is totally phenomenal. He's extremely personable and sincerely knows how to pour a good drink that will please his customers. The other bar staff needs to learn a few things from Jacob. They cant seem to understand why he gets the big tips and they do not, LOL. Dummy up, girls! Be attentive, friendly, personable, maybe pour a little stronger than 1/2 a shot in a tall. Or even a short for that matter. You want bigger tips? Do what JACOB does. Read moreMade another visit and the food was so good! Brought out my drinks and took my order within a few minutes. My salad was brought out and just as finished, Rachel my waitress, was bringing me my entree and small bread loaf.
My only complaint was drink wise. I had water and a soda. Neither were refilled. However, Rachel did ask if I would like a cup of soda to go. Over all, an enjoyable dining experience. Food was delicious on my first visit. T he Greeter and Waitress absolutely awesome. Was greeted immediately after arriving and drink brought out quickly after ordering it. My waitress, Emily, gave me just enough time to look at the menu before coming to the table to take my order. Salad brought within minutes and my Fettuccine with Cheese about 10 minutes later with a half order (3) of garlic bread.
Went back today. Again Greeter was friendly and quick to get me seated. She even remembered me from my first visit!
Choose toasted ravioli with half order of cheese garlic bread again ( it's just so delicious!) Ravioli was cooked perfectly. And delicious along with the meat sauce to dip it in. Garlic cheese bread was toasted just right and cheese melted with just a touch of golden brown around edges. The garlic flavor gently layered in with the bread and cheese was making me wish I'd ordered a full order instead of the half or as they refer to it as a small order.
Now I had a slightly strange drink request. Hot water with a slice of lemon. Yet they didn't blink at the request and happily served it up and kept the hot water refilled. Two dining experiences that were enjoyable both with service and food. Definitely worth the dining experience if you've not been there yet. I know I'll...
