Maria's Cantina in Gallows Bay is a gem for anyone craving authentic Mexican food with a Caribbean twist on St. Croix! I stopped by for dinner during a recent visit, and overall, it was a great experience that left me eager to return. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with a fun sports bar vibe thanks to the multiple TVs—perfect for catching a game. I loved the outdoor seating option in the courtyard, which felt relaxed and let us enjoy the warm island evening. The location in Gallows Bay is super convenient, with plenty of parking, which is a big plus compared to some other spots in Christiansted. The food was a highlight. I ordered the carnitas street tacos on soft corn tortillas, and they were fantastic—crispy, flavorful pork with just the right amount of spice. The chips and guacasalsa were addictive; the salsa had a nice kick and tasted fresh, like it was made that day. My friend got the enchiladas with red sauce, which they raved about, especially the generous portion.

The menu has a great mix of traditional Mexican dishes and some Caribbean-inspired specials, like lobster fajitas.

The drink menu didn’t disappoint either. The top-shelf margarita was refreshing and well-balanced, not too sweet, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. They have a solid selection of tequilas and Mexican beers, which added to the authentic vibe.

Service was friendly and prompt, with our server checking in just enough to keep things moving without hovering. The food came out quickly, which was great since we were starving after a day of exploring.

My only gripes, keeping this from a 5-star review, were minor. The indoor seating area is a bit small, so it can feel cramped if it’s busy. Also, the prices are a touch higher than what I’d expect for a casual spot, but I guess that’s island life where everything costs a bit more.

All in all, Maria’s Cantina is a must-visit for Mexican food lovers on St. Croix. Great food, vibrant atmosphere, and a...

I have eaten at this establishment many times and have gotten the same order each time I went. I ordered 6 mexican street tacos with two drinks and that alone ended up coming out to $60. When I received my order, not only was my food extremely cold, but the meat was also dry and had no seasoning or flavor whatsoever. Even after adding extra cheese and lime to the tacos, my food still tasted like garbage. I decided to call the restaurant and spoke with the owner in regards to how disappointed I was with my food. She proceeded to tell me that the tacos tasted just fine and that I was being delusional. Not only did she have an attitude, but she also refused to give me a refund after asking for one. I would’ve even been satisfied if I was offered a credit to use in the future. However, it’s obvious that the owner of this establishment rather lose a regular customer than to lose $60. My family owns a huge tourism business here on St. Croix and have referred many customers to this restaurant, but after this experience, I will no longer be referring any customers, friends or family members to eat here. Below I will include a copy of my receipt showing how overpriced this establishment is and how they charged me literally for...

I actually ate here quite often, live on the island. The poor customer service tonight cost them at least one customer (probably 3) and this review, probably my first.

Went in with 2 colleagues, two ordered fajitas, the other tacos. They brought him shrimp tacos he said he ordered mahi. I said I thought he ordered shrimp. After dinner he ordered two mahi tacos to go. The manager brought them and informed him they were going to charge him for the two shrimp ones too.

They got into a small argument and the manager pulled ME into the argument saying I said he had ordered shrimp! Now he was mad at me too!

You ruined 3 peoples meals over $13 worth of tacos. You had NO business pulling me into your incredibly bad customer service. It cost your server the tip he would have left her, most of mine and part of the other guy
somehere around $25-30 dollars. But more importantly we are not tourists, we live here. You know you have seen me regularly you said it.

That won’t be happening again, I will not return and I bad mouth you and tell this story to everyone who will listen. You are sadly mistaken if you think you won that $13 battle
it will cost you...

Highly recommend going during lunch, friendly service and delicious options. Huge fan of their taco salads, tacos (hard or soft), and the fajitas. Try the cilantro dressing on the salad or drizzled over your tacos. The house margaritas are a must. Keep an eye out for their specials, different juices like tamarind can add a twist to your taste buds. Loads of parking in the front and back of the establishment. If you have room, order the chocolate churros for a treat.

Probably my favorite place to eat in Christiansted. Taco Tuesday deals are great. Even without the Tuesday specials, it is surprisingly affordable even by stateside standards. Service was fast and food came out incredibly fast. And food was outstanding; I had tacos and a Mexican pizza. I lived on the Mexican border for 4 years and this place was as good as any authentic border restaurant I ate at. Nice little bar, and TVs in restaurant. Highly recommended!
