Beans & Brews Coffee House — Restaurant in Saint George

Was new to town and temporarily staying with a friend and wanted to get out of the house for my housing research. Because of the (mostly) good reviews I thought I'd give this place a try. Immediately upon entering the premises I got a weird vibe from the girl behind the register. One of those indelible moments. There was no greeting, and I thought that was even more strange because they were not busy. As I approached the counter she just waited for me to order. Didn't talk to me. Just stood there. I was ordering breakfast along with my coffee so to break the uncomfortable ice I decided to tell her I needed a moment to look over the menu. Once again, no real communication (like 'take your time and order when ready' or 'I'll be right back' or...). She just stood there with this energy like I had somehow offended her for some reason. So I put in my order. Barely any communication. Another girl made my coffee and just as anywhere else called out my name in an appropriate manner (I didn't expect anything else). When my food order was up the same girl who seemed bothered by me quickly placed it on the counter and barely called out my name. The only reason I heard it was because I was paying attention to the entire staff at this point. There were two or three other girls working that day and I did not get the strange vibes from any of them. It got so uncomfortable for me that I approached the counter and asked one of the other girls to speak to the manager. Imagine my shock and surprise when I saw the girl with the attitude come around the corner! I was taken aback, so all I could blurt out at that point was 'YOU'RE the manager?!' She just deadpanned me and replied yes. In my mind, at that very moment, I realized it was a moot point to pursue anything, so I just said 'oh my god' and walked away. In hindsight I should have just asked for a refund and left the place, but I was so hungry and wasn't up for finding another cafe to 'try out', so I just continued with researching housing while having my breakfast. Of course after THAT interaction the rest of the staff kept looking over at me with that 'what the heck just happened' expressions. After about an hour I finished up and vowed to never return... Fast forward a couple of months and I found myself in the area and thought I'd give the establishment a second chance (everyone can have an off day). Lo and behold, this time there was a middle aged man behind the counter... and I got the same strange vibe (not as strong, though)! He at least provided basic customer service. Having had the experience I did the first time around I of course was on heightened alert. As I sat there having my coffee and breakfast who did I see? The same girl from before. I noticed that she talked with the man, and from that point on it was the same odd feeling and looks my way from him, too.

Needless to say, I never returned after that visit. Never said anything until this review. I figured there was no point to say anything to either one of them because (as I found out by simply listening to the exchanges with other customers who seemed like regulars) it is a family owned and run business. Upon visiting Beans and Brews for the first time, I was hopeful for a small quiet cafe/coffee shop with my favorite Carmel Mocha with whipped cream and a healthy & tasty breakfast sandwich. The atmosphere was definitely pleasant with booths and small tables. The lighting was dim enough to sit and enjoy my coffee for my early morning wake up, and it was not too crowded. Upon greeting the gentleman at the register, letting him know this was my first visit, he seemed happy to help me order the coffee and custom sandwich I was craving. However, after that, I was left standing at the register waiting for my requested receipt and further inquiry on where to pick up my order or if they bring it out to my table. Another employee that thought I needed to order answered my question and gave me my receipt. After receiving my coffee I found a comfortable booth to try out my new delight. The Carmel Mocha was delicious! However, I never heard my sandwich order called out and after waiting a bit, I looked over to the counter to see it sitting there. After retrieving my sandwich, I was greatly disappointed with its presentation. I ordered the ham, egg & cheddar croissant with guacamole. Although, the ham, egg, cheese, & guacamole were tasty enough (with a little added hot sauce), the croissant was super dry and smashed to pieces. Maybe they were trying to smash the croissant into the guacamole to soak up some moisture, but it only made my sandwich impossible to eat without it making a complete mess of guacamole and croissants pieces oozing out all over my hands. I searched down a fork and knife and after removing what was left of the smashed top croissant, I was able to eat it. It would have been a perfect sandwich if the croissant was fresh and fluffy, and a little less guacamole. I will try them again and request...

I would give no stars to the store. Ordered food from here and threw it all up within the next minutes. I contact the store and they claimed someone would reach out. Week went by and no one contacted me so I called them again. First of all, I was lied to or mislead to think I would get a call back from someone. Second, when I called it took them 3mins for their “boss” to answer the phone. Third, the “boss” was very smart with me from the start and was rude. I was trying to get a refund for an order that caused me to be sick and the man was giving me a hard time. This is unacceptable and I will not be returning to this location or any beans and brews. I will not recommend this place as the food made me sick, no help or refund offered from their manager, over priced and overall rude customer service. Do not go here if you want to waste money on food items that you will throw up within the next 15mins. Do not go here if you want rude and unwanted frustration from their customer service.
