Back Bar — Restaurant in Saint Petersburg

Atmosphere is kind of lacking. Service is somewhat indifferent and there is an odor of what smells like urinal cakes. They probably have moisture issues, since the plaza was built in what should have been a protected wetlands, but the Florida government doesn't care much about those. If not for location, I probably wouldn't visit. Beer selection is decent, albeit poorly thought out. They obviously just buy whatever the reps are peddling or what the manager likes. Either way, it's got a lot of taps and only a little appeal, for lack of diversity. Lots of missed opportunities in this space. Back bar is the quintessential bar. Nothing more, nothing less. I love places like this. Local people, friendly, and decent prices. Not dive bar prices, but reasonable. The bar itself presents itself in an intimidating manner at first. The main entrance reveals a basic bar, where many regulars sit on the opposite side. If you are in the mood to mingle, and venture to the other side you will be greeted by friendly banter and equally good service. 5 stars in my opinion, straight up "bar". In town from Orlando and a local friend of ours took us to what used to be his regular spot to visit. The bar tenders friend had an issue with our friend because his previous girlfriend left him to be with our friend. So the bar tender kicked us out! Unbelievable how this was handled. Mind you the bar tenders friend was super drunk. All because he’s a doctor and a friend of the bar tender!
