Hate to do a 1 star review for the food. We’ve eaten here before and the food was good. Stopped there for breakfast(1045a) and my meal should never have come out of the kitchen and served. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, potatoes, sausage and a biscuit. 1 egg was fine but the other was well done, no yolk at all. Potatoes were cold, not freshly grilled, seemed they came out of a serving pan without any attempt to reheat. (Manager did mention that they were freshly cooked at 7a.?)The sausage was way overcooked and not that hot, again, as it came from a buffet tray. The biscuit was hard but was probably the only eatable item on the plate.
I sent the dish back and our server was understanding( I think)and offered to remake or order another dish. My partner already had her dish (average pancake and bacon) so I declined.
Stopped on the way to speak to the Manager and express my concerns. Received the standard non-sincere apology and mentioned she would check with the kitchen manager. First question I would ask, why did you send the dish out, and why are we serving food from heating trays?(Made at 7a?)
I guess I’m angry because I wasted my time and money here in a place that doesn’t care whether you’re a satisfied customer or if you return again. . The Manager could have come over after the dish was sent back and inquired about why, but wasn’t interested. Maybe offer a free coffee or even a comp on my partners meal(wasn’t looking for that, but it would have brought me back and negated this review). Overall, we did like the Hanger and placed it on our repeat list but will not come back because of the indifference of the staff to their food and customers. I’m not focusing on the manager, but she is the face of the business. My feeling is that she(along with serving staff)was not properly trained in customer satisfaction and service by her management, that or her Management doesn’t care either. Hard to believe but I guess it comes down to the bottom line. One last bit of advice, I would ask if your sides were freshly made or were coming out of a serving tray and what time they...
Read moreThe Hangar Restaurant and Flight Lounge in St. Petersburg is an aviation lover’s dream! Located directly off the St. Petersburg Bay on the flight path of incoming planes, helicopters and jets, you’re sure to get a show! The interior of the restaurant, including the menu, play up the aviation theme. We saw many pilots land their small planes and come in for a burger. The Hangar offers indoor seating, a full service bar and an outdoor patio with tables. The runway ends at the bay, so you’re sure to see a ferry or two as well as boats and ships. This is a very busy little airport!
I took my husband, a future pilot, for his birthday. We arrived before 5:00 on a Friday and were able to get the a prime seat on the patio. While the runway is visible from inside the restaurant, if you want the full experience we recommend patio seating! Nothing like the roar of planes coming in for a landing, fuel trucks filling them up, airport workers guiding them in, the trolley running in the background and boats and ferries driving by in the distance as the runway ends at the ocean.
Our order: My husband ordered the steamed Muscles, a Martini and the Hamburger with fries. We shared the Fondue, but do not recommend as the cheese was not hot and the oil and cheese was separating in the fondue bowl when it was delivered. The Strawberry Pecan salad was delicious and will be my go to order as this restaurant doesn’t offer much for vegetarians. We also enjoyed their breakfast offerings one afternoon with the breakfast burrito, Potato’s and Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings for my husband. Overall, the view made up for some of the quality control issues on the food.
Parking is free for restaurant patrons as long as there is parking in the small parking lot and metered parking is available along and across the street. Arrive early and make sure it’s before sunset to catch the most aviation action. My husband is already taking about...
Read moreI had high expectations of this place due to all the positive reviews. So, if you do go there -- do it because you like airplanes or the place being on an airplane runway (helecopters are noisy, lol)...And not for the food.
On our visit, the place was not busy, maybe three tables, yet, both of our orders got messed up. And correcting our order took a while...seems a bit weird to mess up a breakfast plate of steak and eggs, by forgetting the steak (on both orders). And mine was supposed to be medium...it was rare and bloody.
And while having to cook it, apologizing profusely, and then not adjusting the bill apropriately, like perhaps taking the coffee off.
As for the coffee, which we also had to wait for, since she made it fresh for us -- it was terrible. Less one star, just for the flavor of it...I love coffee, and this was NOT tasty coffee...I have had better coffee at Jiffy Lube. I drink my coffee black, and had to put three creamers in it to even out the harsh taste. Shameful coffee. It made me sad.
At any rate, the planes were neat, and breakfast is served all day. The service was about average, although no one was overly friendly, I hate to say, particularly the hostess, who seemed annoyed in a spectacularly Billie Ellish fashion.
And the food runner took the hit for the missing steaks, apologizing and trying repeatedly to get us to take another egg or more potatoes. But it wasn't her fault, she didn't take our order. I hope she...
