Wayback Burgers — Restaurant in Salem

Going to be blunt here, sorry. Never had Wayback Burgers before. Always wanted to try it JUST for the experience. I waited in line to order for far too long. One person on the grill. A huge line of people piled in a corner waiting for food. I'm thinking, okay they are just busy at the moment it will get caught up soon. Nope. Another employee comes out but takes zero orders. He did sport a pleasant air pod in his ear though. Probably why he couldn't hear the customers asking for assistance. The gentlemen who DID take my order was fast, but he looked unprofessional. Are there not uniforms here? I'm confused. It just looked like a circus. Next door, Sbarro was just as busy. However my husband and daughter were able to get pizza that was still in the oven and they STILL got their food before I did. But again, I look over at Sbarro and everyone is nicely kept with uniforms and fully attentive to their customers. The restaurant of Wayback was deplorable. I waited so long unfortunately all I continued to see was the lack of maintenance to this small space. Dirt build up and dust just hanging from everything. Minimal effort is all I see here in up keeping anything. YIKES please clean that place up!

On the bright side, the burger was greasy as expected. That's why 2 stars...

I placed an order the other day and had it delivered through one of the app delivery places. I do not work far from this loaction so the food arrived still hot. Order consisted of Bacon cheesyburger A- Chicken tenders C- Sm. tater tots D The 4 star rating is based on the burger alone (i'll explain why). The chicken and the tots were hot but soggy, in the times of Covid all places are taking extra precaustions. My food arrived in a paper bag, inside of a sealed plastic bag which in turn created a tropical stting inside, full of condensate from the hot steam. The paper bag inside was soaked and so the fried food was pretty soggy had no crisp at all

All places I've gotten delivery from are having this issue. I' m sure had I picked it up myself it would have just been in a paper bag and ben able to vent.

The burger was wrapped in a wax or aluminium coated paper so didn't fall victim to the humidity in the bag. The burger was excellent, cooked right, generous toppings, i added the (-) because the grilled bread was a nice touch but needed slightly more grill time to brown up a bit, otherwise a...

First: I think all the negative reviews here are broke people trying to scam for free food.

I’ve been going to Wayback since I moved to New England in 2012 and they have the best burgers, hands down. The beef in fancier places is never tender enough to compare. Sometimes the wait is a little long, but you’re getting fresh food rather than stuff that’s been cooked and sitting for hours.

I’m sad the standalone location in Salem closed, and now I’m sad that I can’t get into the mall for my burger. Here’s hoping it’s still there when life gets somewhat more normal.

If I had to make one complaint: the chicken dishes aren’t very good. But why are you ordering chicken instead of the best burgers...
