Denny's — Restaurant in Salinas

Out of the 3 denny's we have in Salinas this one is by far the worst. The employees are the walking definition of ghetto. They mess around more than they actually work. You'll be seated just to be forgotten half the time expect like wait times as once you're seated it's as if they feel jobs done. these guys have the attention span of a ferret. On one occasion the chief forgot my fries with my burger.... like all burgers dont come with fries 😒 then I ask the girl if I could get my fries I ordered the seasoned fries I made it a point to say seasoned fries cause I dont like those weird shaped regular fries they have and she comes back with of course regular fries 😑 I tell her no I said seasoned fries she argues "no you didn't you said regular fries" one thing that really gets under my skin is when they argue and say I said this or that when I know what I said. Finally after 20mins i get fries but by then i had finished my burger so no point really plus they were burnt and hard as rocks. On a separate occasion me and my brother went for dinner and they sat us down forgot about us didn't even send someone over to get our drinks at least and the worst part was they sat others around us and took there order so my brother gets upset and asks if we could get some damn service we have been waiting for 25mins they say yea sure right away we tell them can we get some water at least they say sure and we'll get someone with u right away then another 15mins no water no server so my brother gets up we leave. I dont know what happened this use to be such a good denny's but ever since this ghetto new owner took over the whole place went to sh*t. On our last straw we go hungry after working out prior and we get seated we let the person who sat us down know that we had a really bad experience once before and if we could please get someone to us right away and we would like water to drink if its not to much trouble. Well girl gets us our water and surprisingly we get our orders taken in a timely manner, well we thought good we can actually eat today. 25 mins go by and this girl brings us the check and says have a wonderful day guys.... 😳 like what so my brother says screw this place let's come back, as we are leaving this girl has the nerve to chase us down saying we didn't pay, this is where I had to hold my brother back from losing his cool he yells we didn't even eat, so we walk away and she says she's calling the cops at this point me and my brother just leave. Overall extremely horrible service, this place has become a shell of its former self new owner is doesn't know what she's doing and they need to completely rehire full staff at that place. Not me. My husband. He left in that situation and considered it done, but I work in food service, and know that is not enough to change this person's overall behavior. I just want to say something so that maybe the corporate office will see that something is wrong at this store.

My husband drives big shipments all over California and often ends up in the Santa Cruz to Monterey region. Yesterday he was in Salinas, Ca and had some time between making deliveries and picking up an order in the same town, so he decided to stop somewhere for a bite to eat. He had been to this location at least two times previously.

He looked a little bit raggedy, because it is a dirty job sometimes and it was raining outside. He was dressed in sweat pants, quality joggers, and bulky blue jacket which was a little dirty with use. He went to the restroom, and when he came out, saw no one to seat him, so sat himself. He waved down a passing server and asked for a hot chocolate. She said, " you know it's not free, right? A hot chocolate costs $2.49" to which, he looked at his soiled jacket, looked at her and answered, [paraphrasing] "you shouldn't do that to people" and left the store.

I was not there. This is what he told me when I asked him what was wrong and dragged the details out of him. He had not eaten since the previous day because he had an early start at work and had not eaten his dinner. He had not eaten for nearly 24 hours, and instead of asking leading questions to assess the situation, this server assumed that he was homeless and made him feel low because of how he looked. She should have been social if she wasn't sure. She could have started him with water, asked things like, "on your lunch break?" Or "will anyone be joining you today?" Anything to get to the truth without driving away a hungry man.

I know that DENNY'S attracts a lot of party goers, late night and dirty job workers, and homeless vagrants. It is part of the thing about being open 24 hours and having affordable options on the menu: even homeless people can afford to eat there if they know how to order. But no one should be made to feel like his appearance and wealth matter more than his humanity.

I wish I could give zero stars. Incompetent staff, even more incapable managers. I ordered online which should be simple enough to fill considering its written in plain English exactly what I ordered but none the less this Dennys manages to mess it up once again. Forgetting both of my shakes and an entire meal that I had ordered. When I brought it to the attention of the Lady behind the register who was also extremely rude she went screaming into the back area where the kitchen is "Sam!" Which I found out five minutes later is the manager..he says that the restaurants not wrong in the orders and that I have to go back out to my car get the order number which by the way on the email that Dennys sends you to confirm your order it clearly says under the order number you do not need this number to pick up the food anyways I go back out to my car get my phone which only has 2% battery left and bring it inside only to be should decide once again with a rude index finger in my face by sam. By now it is 33 minutes past the time that my order was ready my milkshakes which I did eventually get our now melted my pancakes and grits are cold and I'm still waiting on that grand slamwich that's probably going to have a fat loogie and it because they were wrong and once again prove to be incompetent.
