Sorry this is long but please read dear owner. I am 60 years old. My family is from Salisbury. My late uncle Tom Heffner owned T&F barbecue probably back in 1960. From legend the pioneer with a 4 booths and 8 bar stool counter. Serving barbecue, hot dogs, burgers and krinkle cut fries only. At that time pits were cooked with hard hickory stacked out back with a line of customers at the door. Other than T&F there was winks. As a child I would spend summers with my relatives. My family still lives in Salisbury and I visit not as much as I should. Point: I have lived across Southern states. When you say barbecue to me those are fighting words. Hahaha. I defend Lexington and Salisbury. The longer I am away from seeing my family there is a craving for Salisbury barbecue that builds up. I recently came to visit my sister. She suggested a new kind of barbecue place downtown. I rejected. I came here to satisfy a childhood craving and of course to visit. Decision! I said Hendricks. You have always out performed winks. Your sandwich(chopped) has always been incredible. My ultimate go to is still a foot long hotdog(best dog ever)all the way, but I still order a sandwich out of nostalgia. We drove down innes Street to the location as I took in memories to the location. Old school drive though kinda curbside with cheerful efficient staff. Compliments!! I am in the hotel and food and beverage industry. I would hire them all from you. Sorry. My older sister and I spoke before prior to my trip as both us share the same nostalgia. When we go to Salisbury there is no other option besides hotdogs and barbecue. She had warned me that you have changed the vinegar, cayenne based thinner sauce. It's not the same Salisbury barbecue. I dismissed, but curious. Okay. Old school ketchup bottle with thin vinegar sauce and a nail punch for the spout. Yep! Every table. I understand things change. There is not hickory stacked in the back. But your barbecue is still incredible. The dogs are incredible. Your staff is great. Bottom line: sandwich: barbecue. Don't skimp on the red slaw and old school sauce. What they call dip now is like adding k.c masterpiece to a perfect sandwich. Ick!!! Far be from me to give advice. Just hoping on my return I will see a bottle of ketchup with a nail hole in the top to return to me to authenticity. Thanks...
Read moreFood was great. Although, I would definitely get rid of some of the wait staff. !. No one deserves to be spoke to like an indigent. If you're such a great ,"manager", the front of the house would be running smoothly and the dog walker wouldn't have to demean and bark orders. The other servers would know the job thru training, and tests given before their let to even go out onto the floor. From what I heard yesterday, I shouldn't have expected any less. Supposedly the owner treats them the same way, even making his only child work in the kitchen under people who aren't qualified to be managers. It must be something in the baby boomer generation. they should be called, "its all about me," generation. Nothing surprises me anymore. Just like our soon to be leader of this country, the more you lie and run people over and down to get to the top the better off you'll be. My husband, myself, and our 3 adult sons run our family business together. our motto,"your employees are your family ,too. The better we treat and offer them, the happier they are and the better job they do for us. In almost 4 years, no one apart of my staff has missed a day of work and we've had no turn over. To the owners of Hendrix BBQ, look up the biggest mistake of a business owner, and to all the ladies working Weds/Thurs. night(except Katie or Cathy), you were doing a great job. It takes more than a loud bark and saggy breasts to run a successful business. It shows how much a business can change. I had just eaten there a year ago in Oct./Nov. of 2015 and service was excellent. The waitress went completely out of her way to make us happy. Our family is extremely picky about our food and especially when eating out. The blonde lady assured me that it would be correct. That she was personally going to tell the cook herself ( I think she said her husband/BF/fiancé worked in the kitchen). Those are the...
Read moreHello my friends, I'm truly sorry to say I just endured the worst treatment I have ever received in a restaurant. My wife visited this branch of the Hendrix chain to grab us some breakfast. The food was fine. The problems arose a few hours later when I realized they had charged more on my credit card then I had authorized. I called them in an attempt to rectify this situation. I was told I would have to come up to the restaurant to fix it. I do not drive thanks to a seizure condition I brought back from Iraq. This ment I had to push myself the 3/4 of a mile to the store to try n fix it. When I arrived I was told that they had not overcharged me and I needed to speak with my bank. I showed Amanda, the manager , how the charges differed she again told me not their fault call my bank. While my bank is telling me it was a tip. A tip I did not authorize as my wife tipped in cash. At that point a young man came out of the kitchen and said I did not know what the "Hell" I was talking about and they both headed to the kitchen. When I called to them to clairify that I had just been sworn at the young man stood over me in my wheelchair and in an aggressive manner told me I needed to leave. I was appalled that a restaurant so close to the VA medical center would treat a disabled veteran in such a way. I know my family n I will be finding a new place for our morning breakfast, as well as letting all of our friends at the VA know how these young people treat our returning soldiers.
