College Barbecue has been one of my favorite area restaurants for my entire life. I’ve utilized their food for holidays, special occasions and even catering for different work events through the years. Not saying I’m done with the restaurant or anything but it really seems they are struggling after my last few visits. Most recently I waited in an empty drive through for much longer than I should have to order a foot-long and a large fry. The foot long was decent but the fries were low key warm at best and barely edible. They tasted like oil that should have been replaced a day or so ago. What really upset me was after forgetting to ask for ranch dressing I was told that a small cup of ranch dressing would be 85 cents. Keep in mind that cup of ranch dressing is actually a very few ounces and was to be used for the 10 dollars worth of food I ordered. I know food prices have increased but that seems a little ridiculous. I have stopped frequenting restaurants in the past for charging for condiments, it just seems like a poor business practice to me. I really do hate to complain but it feels like restaurants in general are going with practices like this- I guess I should just start eating at home more. Apologies for the less than stellar review- still...
Read moreIf you like that hickory wood taste and vinegar-based melt-in-your-mouth barbecue. The other place that used to be awesome like this was T & F BBQ on Council Street in Salisbury but it went out of business many moons ago. This is the place. They've been doing it since 1965. So the place is way over 50 years old. But it is been remodeled several times. However it still has an old-fashioned charm. And it's definitely a diners and dive kind of place. It has the three C's that make it still good to this day. Which is cost effectiveness, cleanliness and awesome customer service. I'm a barbecue enthusiasts that's been from the Alamo to Manteo on BBQ and this place definitely ranks in the top 10 on the barbecue trail for Lexington and Salisbury North Carolina. This is where the locals eat in this town. Usually chopped barbecue with delicious red slaw, and nothing could be finer them to wash it down what's Good Old Cheerwine and you become a native even if you're not one. Be sure you order half bun half hushpuppy they're known for their hush puppies too. Most of the people that work around here always get take out here quite frequently. May God be with you in this crazy time in American history. May we use this time to get closer to our Lord and Savior...
Read moreThis would be my last meal request if I were dying. And it would be hard to limit myself because everything here is good. I’ve paid fed-x a few hundred dollars to overnight $50 worth of bbq and hot dogs. And it was worth every penny. When we come home from wherever we are living, we never headed to grandmas first. It was always College Barbecue. Footling hotdog with chili and coleslaw, wrapped in wax paper and plopped right down to the table. Don’t need fancy plates and don’t even want them. A basket of hush puppies. The best chopped bbq and coleslaw tray (again, wrapped in paper) and a fresh bun. Order a Cheerwine while you’re there. Salisbury’s their home. I like 1/2 Diet Cheerwine and 1/2 Diet Coke and when I order it that way, they don’t act like I’m crazy. This place has been here all my life and it’s the same. Even with new floors and furniture and a drive through window, it’s the same. I’ve been to 3 star Michelan restaurants and if I could get a meal from anywhere in the world, this would be what I’d want. Even with its bathroom outside. Yeah, you heard that right. You go outside to get to the restroom. A throwback I think to when it was mostly a...
