Being new to San Angelo, we really wanted to have multiple opportunities for Mexican food. This one will not be on our list. To begin with, our server managed the table next to us but never once addressed us until we had been there a good bit - I had been to the restroom, we had read the menu a few times, decided on our meal and still we sat. The hostess finally noticed and sought out our server… we requested a drink menu and were so concerned we wouldn’t get her back we ordered everything at once. She took her time. We finally received our drinks and on the heels of that, almost all of our food, without small plates for the appetizer. The nachos with steak were rather tasty, the cheese enchiladas were adequate, the tequila tacos were tasteless (the shrimp had not been marinated and tasted like they had been boiled while the red cabbage had simply been wilted- no realm of flavor) and the refried black beans were runny and kept dripping between the fork tines. Our food had not been brought by our server - commendable- and it had been a bit before the server did check on us. We were not offered refills of water nor second bar drinks (stay cleer of the house Margarita). When we finally received attention at the end of our meal we were provided our bill and (after providing it) asked if it was separate. We opted not to pay with her but she took over anyway and seemed quite surprised when I shared with her that her tip would be reflected by her service. Like all positions, pay is commiserate to the ability of the server. We were not the only ones this was happening to, we witnessed the same at...
Read moreReally nice place to eat and get drinks. Lots of room and fantastic service. I am also hard to please so when I say service is good it actually is. Anna is one of the very sweet ladies who makes guacamole in front of you and she will make it exactly how you tell her to, then she will wait until you taste it to make sure it is perfect.
I have been here enough to try most of the menu and so far everything has been really good with a few exceptions.
The calamari fell way short compared to their other dishes. Also anything with chicken was not great, sometimes not even good. Everything else was amazing and I will continue to go here for all of those items.
Five star items: guacamole, enchiladas, salmon, beef or pork fajitas, rice, chile rellenos, the green verde salsa, carnitas tacos, and all drinks. Their California burrito is also five stars but it's very Tex-Mex, however, I like that. My father lived in Mexico for years and the tamales served here were done correctly however they had chicken in them but still the right taste just not a fan of their chicken. I'm going to ask for beef next time and I am sure, they will be perfect.
Other Mexican restaurants in town that I like are Armentas and Cielo's flavor is different but just as good in many ways. However, Cielo 's service and space is...
Read moreLoved the casual but modern atmosphere here. There is a hint of industrial as well, but with an overall warmer tone. The waitstaff all looked very professional and seemed very friendly. Our waiter was extremely polite and very nice. And the food... so good. The only thing (and I'd have to be knit-picking) is that my shrimp chili relleno was more on the spicy side than I expected, but the flavor of the sauce was pretty good, and I sure did eat it all anyway! The shrimp was perfectly cooked; however, I kind of didn't like that it came already cut up. I would have preferred whole shrimpies and cut them myself - and no, I dunno why that is, but for some weirdo reason, it was a bit off-putting that it came already cut up.
I would be a terrible person if I did not highly recommend the guacamole. They make it right at your table, and they give you enough to share with a pretty good sized table - and trust me, your table will thank you. It doesn't get any fresher than that!
All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience and I look forward to revisiting Cielo again very soon. (And I really can't get over how beautiful the name of this restaurant is. Cielo is the kind of word that your tongue just likes saying, and knowing that it literally translates to mean "Heaven" makes it that...
