We do not have many legit sushi places to pick from in west Texas I get that, but what we do have is legit!
In my opinion, so far, this place has the best sushi and hibachi in town by far and I have had them all.
The House Special Roll is outstanding even compared to my all-time favorite rainbow roll which also knocks out of the park!
The steak and shrimp hibachi plate with steamed white rice has a nice light house-made teriyaki sauce and it is superb!
The grilled ginger BBQ squid is on point and worth a try even for the fish/seafood-averse person. They nail this appetizer perfectly.
The onion mushroom soup that comes with all hibachi plates is money! So good and well paired with the rice dishes they have. Not too sweet or salty but just right.
The pork gyoza is some of the best I have had in Texas period. Soft yet crispy exterior with a blast of tender hot pork on the inside that's not fatty and salty but rather savory and umami in all the right ways.
I don't do tea much at all but the lychee iced fruit tea is very good and super refreshing on a hot day such as this. Not overly sweet or fake in flavor.
The house-made Yum Yow sauce ('orange sauce') and the light and sweet house-made ginger sauce are both magnificent parings for the hibachi or the sushi.
Get this... they use real 100% pure wasabi, now reconstituted powder wasabi. I like the powdered stuff fine but man the deal is so much better!
Chef Xu (shu) is a sushi dynamo in that kitchen and server/manager Vivian is a class-act woman running the ship with sushi that pleases the palate across the board.
I noticed that also have a full-scale bar with sake, beer, and wine in the bar...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I came to MASA because I really wanted sushi for my birthday dinner. We first ordered the spicy edamame which was very yummy per usual. He ordered the hibachi chicken and steak and I ordered the California roll and the Mango roll. His food came out first after a some time, which wasn’t bad, they were busy. 10 minutes went by and I told him to go ahead and eat so his food wouldn’t get cold, expecting mine to come out soon. Another 10-15 minutes goes by and he’s done with his food and my rolls still never made it to the table. After a little more waiting, I finally told the server to just forget it. There was never any mention about the reason they didn’t come out except for the fact the kitchen was backed up, which I understood, but why bring out one persons food and then the other doesn’t have anything? Nothing was ever offered to me for the issues we had. Our server, Layni, was very attentive and helpful, so I don’t have a complaint with the servers, but I do with the service itself. I’ve never had issues at MASA in the past, but this was very disappointing, especially for...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible. If I could give it a negative, I would. First, It took an hour to get our food. Second, I ordered steak hibachi and the vegetables came out burnt, but cold. How they managed that? I don't know. But I thought, I'm with my family, I'm not going to complain. Third, my daughter ordered the Vietnamese noodles and they were absolutely bland. she took one bite and gave it back. She ate some of my steak. Fourth, because it took so long, one of us had to go back to work with a carry out. Finally, after not eating her noodles and returning them, they wanted to charge me anyways. I asked politely if they could take it off. the waiter was kind and apologetic and said he'd ask his manager. Came back with only a 10% discount. Now, I'm upset. I said I'd pay it and make sure I told everyone what a horrible place to eat on every level: food, speed, and management. I stopped a couple coming in, and told them not to waste their money. Luckily, they listened. I hope you do too.
