This is a restaurant that really leans into the "I've been here a long time" theme.
The chairs and tables all feel very old, like they need a face lift... But, that's also why my children love this restaurant. The first time we were there they asked the waiter if she could give them a tour, and indeed, if you take a little walk around, you'll see little setups where they display antique items. My kids just felt super fancy, even though it's a pretty casual place.
The food is extremely reasonably priced, with the vast majority of food items being under $20, and a kids menu with several items to choose from all for around 5 or 6 dollars, so very reasonable. That said, if your kids aren't a kids menu eater, i might recommend just ordering off the adult menu. Items like the blt can be easily shared between 2 children without spending more than you would for 2 kid's meals.
For the most part, my children and i loved the food, but we noticed the guacamole wasn't very flavorful on our last visit, which we really liked it on our first visit. So, i guess things can be a little hit or miss, but overall, it's all still really good, and it was just that one item, and it wasn't terrible, just not what we remembered.
Moving on: wait staff has always been very nice and extremely helpful, even when my son wants to down 20 glasses of soda. Yes, I'm exaggerating, but they're very attentive and happy to help.
I definitely recommend this place to eat at. And if you're just visiting - it's almost a requirement so that you can experience some of the more historic parts of San Angelo. And, bc the food and wait staff are quality, you should leave...
Read moreSince this is Mother's Day, Rod and I wanted to treat my Mom to a wonderful dinner. I made 2 pm reservations (thats the time the host gave me...)at Ms. Hatties Bordelo and Cat House which has a reputation of being one of the finest places to eat in San Angelo...When we got there, the place wasn't to packed. They were serving buffet style. No one waited on us for almost 5 minutes after we got their. And then it was the owner I suspect of miss Hattie's, that seated us...When we finally got to go get our food all that was left was some really fat roast beef which Mom and I got and 1 small piece of salmon which is Rod's favorite. My meat consisted of a very small piece of lean meat and a huge chunk of fat. There was a small amount of green beans with almonds, some rice and some scalloped potatoes. All of which were cold. No salad, it was about all gone. Dessert was 2 servings of bread pudding, that looked like they scraped together, with whiskey sauce and 1 piece of blueberry cheesecake. A family of 8 people was seated after us and god only knows what they were able to get. This meal cost $100 dollars for the 3 of us and was the worst I've ever had. If this is San Angelos finest I'll stick...
Read moreI moved to Christoval, Tx from Plano, Tx. I lost access to a diversified selection of Plano resturants. However, in San Angelo, I believe that Miss Hatties provides a unique resturant experience. It's been one of my favorites, for a drink, lunch or dinner. Recently, my daughter graduated from ASU with a BS in nursing. Her grandparents and uncle and aunt selected Miss Hatties as the place for celebrating her graduation. It was a large group, but Miss Hatties was able to accomadate us. The waitress did an outstanding job of serving us, and paying attention to our needs. Miss Hatties provides a quite atmosphere for conducting dinner conversations without having to shout and the decor provides a historical look of past history. The bar room has a diversified selection of wine and liquor for the discriminating palatte. The 21 day aged steak cooked over mesquite wood is one of my favorites of the dinner menu. Let's not forget the live entertainment, saxophone player, that is provided on the weekends. He's a favorite of mine. Miss Hatties provides good food and drinks, fast seating, with courteous and friendly service and that's why I keep going...
