Never in my life have I felt more discriminated against. I moved to San Antonio a few months ago and have loved going to Brass monkey. I had a friend come visit and I told her we had to go check it out. After paying for an Uber, we arrived and went through security. I was stopped by security because I have one small tattoo of a sailboat behind my ear, no other visible tattoos. I was told I was not allowed in the bar, by an employee covered in full neck tattoos. I’ve always had fun at this bar, but I promise I will NEVER return after the most ridiculous policy I have ever heard. Do not go to this bar if you are any type of alternative (not that I would even consider myself that) and looking to be accepted. They are living in the same backwards policies as much of Texas. Very disappointed.

Some guy targeted me and other women. One girl had a swollen eye and he knocked me onto the floor so my elbow is messed up. I informed security and security informed the manager who only approached this situation TERRIBLY. She didn’t believe me and said “why didn’t you tell someone” and I said that I did. The security said he saw it happened but when she was nasty to me and didn’t believe me, he never spoke up. He just stood there in silence. She told me to get out. She’s trash and so is this place. I honestly heard so many bad things but I figured why not- MISTAKE. Go here if you’re trashy because I’m too good for this place.

Our friends and I decided to check out this place since the music seemed to bop. IDs checked, then walked over to the security guard. She does the wand thing, then says something (I didn’t understand what she said bc she was sucking on a lollipop). She says ‘no’, and I said ‘I didn’t hear you’ and she proceeds to say to open my bag. She starts searching my bag and says ‘you can’t come in with the excedrin bottle.’ Mind you the bottle in question holds about 24 caplets of excedrin. So yeah I was denied entry for a little bottle of excedrin. Thanks brass monkey, we won’t be back. Picture included for reference.

It’s a miracle this bar hasn’t been bankrupt by lawsuits by now. I have heard so many complaints and horror stories about this place, yet I didn’t want to jump to conclusions without first hand knowledge so here is a breakdown.

Security is ineffective or over the top. It seems there is no in-between. They will pat you down, check purses and bags, remove whatever they feel like they don’t want inside without any logic to what they are looking for but trust me something will be thrown out of your belongings or you can’t enter. They are not there to make you safe as much as they are to enforce the word of management or just do as they please. Don’t expect them to be objective or honest about what they see or do.

The bartenders are a mixed bag of rude and inconvenienced by your existence as a patron. Some are slightly more competent then the rest but overall bottom of the barrel service and drink/tab issues galore with very little effort from management to correct basic customer needs. Dealing with management in any capacity is a sure fire way to be removed from the premises, so just avoid it if you ever mistakenly end up here.

Bathrooms are dirty, crowded and poorly kept. Bathroom line policies are uniquely annoying compared to any bar/club/venue I’ve ever heard of.

They have themed nights and it’s surprisingly big inside however that allure only amplifies the disappointment of what this bar could be.

The outright failure of management to properly provide a safe environment for its customers is only overshadowed by their lack of care to the customers themselves. They don’t care about your experience, what you say or why you are complaining. They will do what they want regardless. Basic safety is noticeably not a priority for them.

I could never wrap my mind around how this cesspool manages to operate with all this outright nonsense.

Take your money and time elsewhere it’s just...

Personally, I love this club. I have been going consistently for the last two years. It is my favorite and I spread the word whenever I can . However tonight I was kicked out for invalid reasons. I had one drink at this establishment. I then waited in line for the bathroom. They then directed me to the far bathroom for when it gets crowded. My friend and I waited in line. We were then skipped for A security guard. Which i understand if necessary but i made a comment to the security person who was directing our line, that we could go to the other if there was an issue. After that I was skipped again by a manger. Who then exited and decided I was hostile since I made a comment. She then kicked me out without my phone or credentials, which my friend was holding. They refused to also let her leave with me through a side exit even though I expressed she had necessary credentials that would prevent me from finding a safe way home. She then expressed that she would not allow her to follow me . I was left outside, and had to wait for my friends to find me. I was talked down to by security after asking what directions I should follow, and dismissed at the front when trying to take directions on next necessary steps. Personally I loved this place, but I don’t believe these actions were justified. We waited for over 30 minutes to talk to a manger after this issues and never were able to reach a resolution or even talk to this person . It’s devastating to experience this after so long. I love this place, and honestly I don’t think I can bring myself...

Went here for the first time for my 21st birthday, right away the security were definitely rude for no reason because I didn't understand every hand gesture they did meant, like dude talk words so I can understand what you're trying to check on me 🤦🏽‍♀️ they denied my boyfriend to get in because he had his prescribed medication pills for his diabetes that he needs, they told him to go dump it somewhere or just get rid of it. He was able to get in once he had to walk all the way back into the truck to put his pills away. That pretty much annoyed me already and I literally just got in there. The bartender that was keeping our tab was very nice though shoutout to her for not being rude like the rest of the staff here that makes you feel uncomfortable and just wanna leave. Was finally having a good time drinking and dancing until they decided to kick out my brother for slightly throwing up in the toilet, one of the short ass bouncer with a ponytail was following him and his bf around and followed my brother into the bathroom like a weirdo. I threw up a ton in the bathroom and I didn't get thrown out so I didn't understand why they wanted to kick out my brother so badly when he wasn't even that tipsy just bloated from the drinks that barely had alcohol in them. Over all a very sad and uncomfortable place with overly rude staff (not the bartender that helped us that night tho love you) will probably never go back which is sad because my mom use to go here alot in the 2010s and she said it's definitely not as cool as it was back then,...
