I used to frequent Midnight Swim because it's usually where our whole group liked to go. But after this last experience there we will not be returning. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and were hanging out outside. One of my friends wasn't feeling very good and needed to use the restroom. So he and another friend went to the bathroom. The staff was standing there monitoring the bathrooms and wouldn't even let them go inside. Instead they got escorted out the back of the building, even though the front entrance was way closer. He ended up vomiting outside and being fine. So when they tried to get back in, apparently they don't let anyone in after 1:30am (it was like 1:32am when they tried to come back inside), they weren't allowed to come back in. Granted they both had brand new unfinished drinks sitting on the table right next to the entrance. Like I totally understand the 1:30am rule, but we didn't even willingly leave the club AND still had mostly full unfinished drinks sitting right at the table. We were forced, OUT THE BACK ?!?! Had they just been allowed to use the restroom everything would have been fine. It is absolutely absurd that the bartenders were comfortable enough to serve them alcohol, but the bathroom supervising staff thought they needed to be escorted out the back? Not only that but while we were sitting in the parking lot waiting for our friends to finish their drinks, there were at least 4 tow trucks, tag-teaming the cars in spots as soon as the clock hit 1:30am. They must've been waiting for people's parking times to expire and took away at least 7-10 cars while we were sitting there. We will not be returning because this experience was just crazy, other clubs on the same street are way better...
Read moreSan Antonio as a city provides locals and visitors to experience Mexican food and all of its wonderful regional diversity. While Chisme offers items that are traditionally Tex-Mex and some items could be categorized as "Mexican food", Chisme is more about the atmosphere and the potential to take cute botanical garden-looking photos with your friends at brunch than it is about the quality and flavors of the food. Opening a new-aged Mexican restaurant in San Antonio is a bold move since criticism or skepticism from locals who have been nourished by the hole-in-the-wall Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants our parents ate at when they were kids, is highly likely. Chisme does however, try to cater to the heritage Tex-Mex, Mex food eaters like myself by incorporating dishes that were traditionally "food we ate because we were broke", such as papas and chorizo. My first and second time here, chorizo (in two different dishes) was super salty and annoyed me that I was paying $11+ dollars for something I feel like I could have made at home.
The ratio of champange and orange juice Chisme mimosas has will make you feel great. The chips and salsa are yummy and a when you are drinking with your friends, they disappear real quick. I think the purpose of Chisme is to drink the variety of alcoholic beverages offered and eat food that might be expensive and not as good as Abuelitas, but at least you didn't have to cook it. It is that guilty outing that makes you realize you can do better, you've probably had better, but you really just want to drink mimosas and take pics of you and your girls for the gram, and you know what?...
Read moreSave yourself the time and skip dinner. Had been here once before for brunch and had a great experience. Not so last night. I made reservations (and noted that we were celebrating our anniversary) for last night and when we arrived we let them know we had reservations and were seated at the only long high top table in the place even though I’m in a dress and heels and there are several other open tables. Immediately after, they seat a 10 top at the same high top we are at! The host seemed to be oblivious and generally annoyed when seating us. But, again, why seat a couple on a romantic date, and the ONLY shared table in the restaurant when there are open two tops? Server was okay. Wasn’t knowledgeable of the menu at all. Appetizer was small and bland. We waited another 40 min for our entrees even though several other tables that came after us were already eating. When it was brought out, my food came a good five minutes before they brought my husbands plate. Both of our plates were lukewarm at best. Rice and beans were AWFUL. Serving them in San Antonio is just wrong. Absolutely no flavor. I had the tacos and only took a bite of the avocado taco. It was flavorless and cold. The brisket burnt ends taco wasn’t much either. Husband got the pork belly and said it was dry and bland. Neither ate more than half and decided to leave and eat elsewhere. $66 for a bad experience from start to finish. The only reason I gave it two stars was for the previous brunch....
