This was my first time at this restaurant, and it will definitely be my last. The only reason I’m giving one star is because I have to in order to leave a review. When I arrived, there were four women standing at the front none of them greeted me, made eye contact, or acknowledged me in any way. A manager wearing glasses was also standing there and failed to greet us as well. We had to initiate the interaction ourselves before anyone acknowledged us. Only then did the manager ask one of the women to seat us. Once we were seated, I noticed servers attending to every table around us, but no one approached ours. After about six minutes, someone finally dropped off chips, salsa, and water. I assumed a server would arrive shortly after, wrong. We waited another six or seven minutes before a server came to take our order, without introducing himself or removing the menus, which remained on our table for the entire visit. The server returned quickly with our drinks and then completely disappeared until I asked someone (the same woman who dropped off the chips and water) to send over a manager. That manager never showed. Meanwhile, I observed a manager repeatedly visiting the table behind us, delivering food, receiving a tip, and even hugging the guests like they were old friends. It was clear that some tables received a level of attention and service that we certainly did not. A good manager checks on all tables, not just familiar ones. Eventually, after waiting ten more minutes, I had to stop someone I believed to be a manager. I was right. I shared my concerns and let him know I would be leaving a negative review. He showed little concern, and I later saw him speaking to my server and another manager. Suddenly, the server began stopping by our table multiple times far too late to make a difference. Our menus were only removed when the check was dropped off. At this point, I couldn’t help but wonder if we were being ignored because of how we looked or how we were dressed. Regardless, no one dining out should be made to feel invisible.

If you’re looking for great customer service and a place that values every guest,...

I am very disappointed w/ the service we had experienced yesterday at the el mirasol on 1604. Which is sad because I loved coming to this restaurant. It was a group of us, and we all had paid. However, one of our friends PAID - but then reviewed her check and noticed that she had got charged for 2 additional Chispas - which she only drank one.

She did have to leave, so we brought the concern, to our waiter. Our waiter became very frustrated and aggressive - as if we were lying. Again, everything was already paid for. He then, proceeded to say “why did she leave then - why did she leave”. We were never rude to him ever - we were simply just trying to understand why he was saying she in fact had 2, additional when that wasn’t the truth. So, after he made the comment - we asked for the supervisor at that point. The manager comes and we explain what happened and how her check was incorrect, he then proceeded to say. Well I need to check the cameras, which as a customer is very upsetting - as again all our checks were correct, we all had paid already. So fine, check the cameras - you’re going to be proven wrong as she only had 1 drink.

Then as the manager walked off, we were frustrated at this point. As all this was unnecessary - but the treatment was very disrespectful. As this other random man - stood over our table asking. “What’s the problem”. All aggressively at first never mentioning he’s “another manager”. It just was all so uncalled for. The security came in - saying we were trespassing at that point. When the waiter did fix the amount FINALLY after 30 min of arguing - snatched the copy back from my friend and stated “don’t you ever come back here.”

So check the cameras - you’re in fact going to be proven wrong. All we wanted was for this mess up our waiter didn’t want to take ownership for to be fixed and we would’ve left. However just know if you’re trying to get a correction fixed on a bill. Management is very aggressive and you probably will end up getting trespassed for no reason. This...

I had Tacos Norteños, Margarita on the Rocks, Mango shot. Everything was very good, especially the tacos. The chips are different in that they small (which is fine of course) but they were thick, I prefer thin. The salsa was good, a lot better than most in San Antonio. I just haven't had any salsa in SA that is amazing. IMO If I want to drink or eat salsa by the spoonful on it's own then it's amazing; I have not experienced that in San Antonio. My own is preferable and Houston overall still has better salsa - nearly anywhere you go. From what I've seen there are a lot more experienced chefs in this genre in Houston and there's definitely a lot more Mexicans in Houston. I could be not wrong numbers wise but when I walk around San Antonio it's very white, very little color. Maybe San Antonio is too influenced by the white tourists, therefore caters to the weaker palette(?) where as Houstonhas many many Latinos actually living there. Salsa does not have to be too hot to be good in fact if it's too hot where's the flavor? I just haven't experienced any salsa that has A LOT OF FLAVOR and a LITTLE HEAT in SA. But I definitely would eat theirs again because I will definitely go back. The service was amazing the hostess was a little unfriendly (not rude!) but maybe she was new/shy(?). The tacos were a very generous serving, I could only eat 1, this is just information I'm not complaining. I really like that taco! The mango shot was crazy good. I got the plain Margarita on the rocks which was very enjoyable! A LOT better than La Fogata restaurant which supposedly is award but theirs is bitter and yuck. These tacos have me thinking I may be ordering them on a regular basis but I do have to venture out and try other stuff on their menu based on...

Normally, I leave food reviews, this time no! The service was a solid 1! I came in for drinks and some food for me and my wife anniversary. The hostess told me wait to be seated. So didn't sit anywhere without someone leading me to my seat. I said that makes sense! She said you're free however to order drinks at the bar. Just let us seat you. I said, ok sounds good. I said to her we would like to sit at the bar. She said I will try to find you a seat there when they're available. So I went to the bar and ordered drinks. The bartender when ordering drinks reaffirmed what the hostess said to me about seating. While standing at the bar this guy came straight through the their doors of the restaurant directly to the bar and never spoke a hostess. He sat in the seats that my wife were hoping to get after this couple got up. I then said to the bartender, "I thought you told me that we had to wait until a hostess seated you!" He said then you're right, I'm not sure what happened? I then told the hostess about what the guy did, she said yes I know we didn't seat him and he grabbed the seat. However, we're going to sit you somewhere else at the bar. I was like, WOW! So, unfair of a restaurant on how they treat customers! I spoke to Juan Guerrero the manager. He was dismissive of my experience. He stated, we will try better next time! I was like, WOW ! I never cause a scene when incidences like this happen to me, I just silently write about my experience! Which anyone can tell, it was horrendous! Writing has a more lasting effect than making a in scene in someone's business and then embarrassing themselves! By the way, the food was mediocre. Nothing to write home about!

Oct. 2022: It's been a while since we've visited @elmirasolsa so we went back for dinner. The place was quite busy but thankfully we got a table outside. Bryan was attentive and efficient. I had a Michelada, Dad with his Lemonade and my husband had a Premium Margarita. We shared a Queso Flameado. First time to try this so we were disappointed to find out that it doesn't come all lit up. Dad and I shared the Lump Crab Avocado Relleno. Very generous portion of crab but wasn't expecting so much salad. My husband had the Shrimp Mirasol. I had one shrimp; it was delicious with the cilantro cream sauce. We ended the meal with Churros and vanilla ice cream. Finished all the ice cream but brought home the churros we didn't finish. Food doesn't disappoint here! 2019: First time to have dinner at this restaurant. Had been to the NW Military location for lunch before. This has been my neighbor's go-to Mexican restaurant for many, many years and we were there to celebrate her birthday. Kicked off the meal with margarita on the rocks! I tried the shrimp enchilada with cilantro cream sauce. Lots of shrimp in the 1 enchilada that it was very filling, eating it with the plantains. My husband had a different shrimp dish (Cameron al aljillo) and I think they were maybe prawns because of the size. My neighbor started off with the hongos flameados (mushroom with lots of cheese) and had the Chile relleno for her entree. Her friend had the nopalitos as an appetizer and the shrimp nachos for her meal. Everyone enjoyed the food. The pace of when the food came out was more leisurely which was fine since we were busy talking. We sat on the patio in the unusually cooler evening.

There's no shortage of TexMex restaurants in San Antonio where you can get good enchiladas, tacos or other traditional fare of all kinds. However, El Mirasol has great food, prepared in a different, traditional Mexican style, so come prepared to try something new. I tried one of the creamy, Colonial-inspired Mexican dishes, chiles en nogada. It was delightful and like nothing I’ve ever eaten before. The poblano chili was filled with picadillo, a mixture of shredded meat, aromatics, fruits and spices, and topped with a cream sauce, called nogada, and pomegranate seeds. The original restaurant on Blanco Road is off-the beaten path, but it's not a hole in the wall. It's located in a strip center, and the building is not that large. The indoor portion of the restaurant looked cramped and possessed less atmosphere. The raised outdoor patio looked inviting, but on those days when it is too hot or cold, I expect the indoor patio is the best place to be, with a garden like feel. I am already looking forward to my next trip to San Antonio so I can visit El Mirasol again.
