Saw David Elder do a review on this place and decided to give it a try. I was greatly disappointed.
I got a 2 crisp tacos and rhey were super bland. The meat had absolutely no seasoning. The shell, lettuce, tomato and cheese were all fresh but the blandness of the meat just killed the whole taco.
David praised the Pastor there so I got the Pastor Street Tacos. The Pastor was barely warm and was super dry and almost like eating leather. It had decent flavor but it just seemed as it had been previously cooked and then warmed up.
Also ordered the Sirloin Burrito. It resembled and tasted like a bigger version of the Taco Bell Steak Burrito. Although it had a decent taste, it definately was nothing to write home about.
I couldn't believe how many people they had on staff there with so little customers. There was what looked to be about 20 people on staff. At one point, I was the only customer in the place. 2 other people did walk in while I was there but that was it. Only seen 1 car go through the drive-thru on my visit.
A good majority of the staff were just hanging around, playing on their phones, chit chatting, some seemed to be flirting with each other... I found this to be so odd to have that many on staff with little to no business.
Anyway, the 2 tacos, 4 street tacos and the burrito along with a medium drink ran me just over $33. Wow!!! Maybe they have to charge more to help pay all the unnecessary staff.
Anyways, this was my first ever visit and it will be my last as well. For that price, and the stellar review by David Elder, I expected far better food. So disappointing.
UPDATE: Taco Palenque posted a response to my review and asked that I send them my phone number so they could reach out to me. I provided my number per their request and to date, they have NOT reached out to me.
My only guess is that they respond to negative comments with this "canned" response in an attempt to give the appearance to the public that they are reaching out to people that had bad experiences when in actuality, they...
Read moreWe've tried. Really, we have. Except for our first time, the fajita quality for take out is really sub-par. Definitely "old" meat being prepared and dispensed. Maybe it's different when dining in.
If you get the fajitas at lukewarm temperature, count yourself lucky. The last couple of drive thru visits, the fajitas have been cold, yet the tortillas, rice, beans etc (If received) are hot when we get home.
If you order a Parillada for 2-3 people for example, expect to see more grilled onions than your meat choice in the take out container. Every. Single. Time.
The avocado/lettuce side in our last visit had pieces of the avocado skin itself mixed in.
They have a zillion people in the kitchen, yet the food order given at the drive-thru is always missing items (salsas, tortillas, utensils) etc. Or some part of it is incorrect. It appears no one is checking order accuracy and completion.
On this last drive-thru visit, after noting items were missing, I returned to the store to discuss this & the other previous issues. To the store manager's credit, he did profusely apologize & provided a discount for the inconvenience. For that - I thank you & prevented a 1 star review.
The TacoPalenque online ordering is hit or miss. And if you try to call the number for this location to place an order thereafter, it'll just ring until the call is forwarded to another line, and no one answers.
Compared to the Taco Palenque in RGV (McAllen) this specific location leaves much to be desired.
Owners/Managers: Don't bother with the "reach out to us" reply. We have provided email feedback multiple times and gave a phone number as requested in your auto-reply emails to "discuss this further" ... never...
Read moreIt happened to me again. This is the second time I come to this location and they get it wrong. I would rather much leave a review then to call and speak to a manager to inform them of the situation this is more to let everyone know CHECK your order before you leave and go inside if your waiting for a number if it’s incorrect. My previous drive thru visit I asked for green salsa and they gave me the avocado one i said ok that could be an honest mistake because I said green. They also didn’t even confirmed my order back to me they just told me to pull up and they will have my total at the window.. I feel uncomfortable when businesses do this because no one is perfect and this is where mistakes can happen. This drive thru visit I specifically said green TOMATILLO salsa, was told again to pull up to the window for a total, they ask me to pull up to number 3. They bring out my food after a few mins. I get home only to find out that Again!! They gave me AVACADO salsa!! Y’all need to repeat orders and place them in immediately and stop doing them from memory. I won’t be able to enjoy my lunch the way I want too. I don’t live close enough so when I’m in the area I treat myself to taco palenque because it’s so good! But not when I don’t have my salsa choice. Yes I failed to check my order because I trusted that they understood when I said TOMATILLO SALSA. obviously they did not. So just check y’all’s order before you leave. I’m starting to see a pattern at...
