It was my 1st time eating at Wahkee and might be the only time. The biggest problem was the lack of flavor.
When I sat down at the table answer to browse the menu I noticed none of the items had any descriptions of what they were. Some of them had names that were just made up with no description. The bigger problem is when I asked the waiter what these items were he didn't know.
I ordered a menu item called the fried flat rice noodle and beef.Which suspiciously sounded like pad see yew which is a Thai dish. When the food came out it was pad see yew.
The next problem was that we ordered one of the plates medium spicy , my food I assumed would have some kind of spiciness to it. Neither of our dishes had much flavor at all. 1st I salted my food. Then I asked for some kind of spices, or crushed pepper and they brought me hot oil. I added the hot oil and the food, and all it tasted like was oil and stale chiles after that. Then I added some soy sauce which just made the food even saltier. I ended up drinking 3 cokes while sitting there.
The food wasn't bad, the inside the restaurant was nice, and the prices on the menu were fair, the food just needed flavor which is a big problem. It was some of the blandest Chinese food I've ever had.
I'm not sure if all the food is like this or it was just the fact that I ordered a noodle dish and the person dining with me ordered combination fried rice.
I might be willing to give it another try, but as a first experience it was...
Read moreI want to share an unfortunate experience that happened to me and my coworker today. We ordered our favorite lunch from a local Chinese restaurant, Wah Kee on Blanco and 1604 in San Antonio. We often order out because it is convenient, but I've never had an interaction like today. The driver that delivers for the restaurant was enraged because " I was taking too long" to bring my debit card. The time frame he was referring to was actually three minutes. The driver never attempted to call me to make me aware of the urgency. I was made aware the driver had arrived. I excused myself from the person I was caring for and walked up to the front desk to pay. At that moment, the driver had raised his voice to my coworker as I approached the situation. He was so angry for waiting for me and said he was in a hurry, so I paid for our meal so he can leave. He threw my debit card at me and stormed off. He proceeds to use profanity at us and flipped us off with his middle finger. I hope this review reaches the owner or manager of Wah Kee restaurant so they can address his behavior. I will not order from Wah Kee for delivery due to the drivers' abusive behavior mistreating the customers. We have placed large orders from Wah Kee for quite some time, and while the food has been good, the driver was inappropriate. I called the restaurant to report the interaction, but the manager was unavailable. Lastly, after looking up my receipt, I noticed he gave himself a...
Read moreWhere do I start! The only thing good about this place; was the delivery guy, he was nice!!! with that out of the picture let me explain:
The chicken&Broccoli was not "Chicken&Broccoli" but plain chicken(boiled) slapped with broccoli(steamed); nothing I could not have done myself with chicken and veggies from Sams club.
General Taos, which is why I order Chinese, was disgusting.... simple as that!!!
3.Orange Chicken: was a disaster as the general tao's
Chicken lo mein's texture first of all looked like it was passed through a paper shredder then served to us with hate!!! Not to mention the taste..
Fried rice was decent but I am not ordering Chinese food to spend $40+ on Rice!!!
Understand I am from Maryland, the Mecca of great Chinese food; like California and New York; All I ask of San Antonio is real Chinese food. The best place I have had here after multiple tries is "King Buffet" on Route 16 and 410.
The lady was kind enough to give me my money back, full refund but had the audacity to tell me, "You ordered American Chinese food, not Authentic Chinese food" What does this mean, anyone? That is like going to an authentic Mexican restaurant and them serving a Taco Bell taco; not to mention it is called Wah kee AUTHENTIC Chinese Cuisine, Not Wah kee American and Authentic Chinese Cuisine.....
I may also note, I have never written a bad review about anything in my life, but just wanted to warn the public to stay away from...
