We thought the restaurant seemed upscale. We decided to celebrate our Anniversary there.
Pros: 💙Ambiance is on point. 💙Those scallops! 😚 💙The chocolate mousse & caramel sauce! 💙Great searing on everything. 💙The English peas were delicious! 💙Sauces tasted yummy!
Cons: 💔Risotto was slightly underdone. Small crunch. It was not creamy. It was too similar to rice. 💔The civeche was disgusting and disappointing. Call it a shrimp salad! Huge cherry tomatoes cut in half. Big, long strips of jalapeno. Just huge chunks of a few things. BLAND. Tostitos chips? Cheap chips! I'd you LOVE civeche, DO NOT get this one. 💔Super small portions of most things. Which, if everything was stellar at the price point, you'd expect that. But, it wasn't. 💔Almost everything was lacking flavor. The sauces were good, but they were like decorations, so the entire protein couldn't benefit from the sauce's flavor boost.
💔THE worst part of it all... The wait staff.💔
The place barely had tables, but the wait staff was idle and not attentive, to us or to anyone. The one time our water was filled, the manager did it. The appetizer, civeche, was brought out by another waiter, and as he set it on the table, the civeche bowl slid on the plate, pushing the chips onto the tablecloth. His instinct was to scoop them up with his hand, but at the last moment he stopped grabbing them and grabbed our silverware and used those to scoop them off the table. Then perhaps realizing that too was gross, he stopped that endeavor half way and left the table. I assumed he was going to get us more cheap chips, but he never returned. Just gross!!! We told the waitress that it is our Anniversary, but she didn't inquire about it at all, or interact with us. And as we left, she simply said, "Have a good night." Having been a waitress, that just disappointed me. The whole staff was THE SAME. They brought the ambiance way down. Unless you're drunk. It seemed their m.o. was to leave tables alone to drink. I'm sure drunk the food tastes better. We sat in front of a mirror, and with that mirror, we could see inside the kitchen where the staff was. Our waitress brought in a half-eaten appetizer and showed two male waiters it wasn't fully eaten and they excitedly each took a part of it and ate it. My husband saw that in the mirror and made a huge face of disgust, then laughingly told me what happened. Seriously, SO low class. Go eat at Chili's, lol!
Combining the poor tasting food with the ridiculous staff, this restaurant is overpriced and overrated. We will never go back and already told our local family to not go. I hope this review helps you save your money and find a place that will actually give you the high class experience you are seeking for your...
Read moreThis is my first negative review of any kind as I strongly dislike airing complaints so broadly. However, this experience should be shared. My wife and I have celebrated anniversaries, birthdays, and dined with out of town guests at Silo for more than 10 years. So, it only seemed natural that we would again choose Silo for our 21st anniversary. The experience on February 17, 2022 leaves us searching for a new restaurant. The bottom line is that the "manager" Scott should not be in a position to interact with customers in any capacity. My wife and I decided to visit the Silo website prior to dining. Interestingly, Silo offers the ability to order online which links to DoorDash. Using this option also allows you to pickup the order in person and even select the time for pickup--another feature we selected. Upon arrival, we were told that someone called in sick and the DoorDash app wasn't being monitored or fulfilled. We were also told that any order placed is between us and DoorDash. Remaining calm, we thought this minor misunderstanding could easily be resolved by meeting with a manager. Cue Scott whose first words were to rudely inform us that he has no order and isn't involved (never mind that we ordered from a link on the Silo website, received a confirmation and pickup instructions, and were charged $79.02 for our lunch order). With me holding an itemized email confirmation and my wife explaining that this isn't right, Scott rudely tells my wife to "pause" as if he's talking to a child. Never again! This should have never escalated to this point. After being insulted, and belittled, our order was eventually fulfilled (with no apology from Scott) but that doesn't matter. Despite years of memories at Silo, we won't be back. "Trust is gained in drops and lost in buckets"...
Read moreMonday's are half price wine bottles (+$50). We started our evening off by a bottle of DAOU Chardonnay and ordering 2 oysters of each: 2 Sex on the Bay, 2 Chebooktook, 2 Princess Delights, 2 Rappahannock, but we wound up getting 3 of each so instead of 8 oysters we ended up with 12 oysters. They offered to fix the bill and allow us to keep the extra oysters.
We then had a bowl of the clam chowder and we split this and it was magnificent!
Lastly, was our entree that we split, Miso Glazed Salmon. The order arrived already split, however, the Salmon was very undercooked. They removed our plates and attempted another Salmon, and although more cooked then the previous, still undercooked.
Unfortunately, they don't keep the wine bottle on the table as they want to chill it in a larger community chiller. However, when we were asked if we would like two more glasses of wine, our understanding was that we still had wine left in our wine bottle, but after looking at the receipt, we were charged for 2 glasses of wine. So we ordered a $56 bottle of wine, at 50% off it is $28 off. It just so happens that two glasses of wine also cost $28. So instead of letting us know we had finished our wine bottle and it would be more economical to order another bottle, the waiter made us believe we had more wine left in the bottle, but actually gave us two glasses of full price wine.
We normally love SILO, but this time it was not an enjoyable time nor was it enjoyable to feel like we were taken advantage of financially. We were not comped anything for the undercooked fish.
Better communication and customer service would have gone a long way in making this a better experience...
