It doesn't get any better than a coal-fired brick oven pizza ! The pizza alone is five stars!! This style of pizza gives a crispy slice with an amazing crunch, no flop, and great crust! The restaurants kitchen is open and in plain view where you can see your pizza being made from scratch to finish with their Fresh hand-tossed dough that is made in-house daily. We ordered "The Don" and "The Margherita" pizza and they were both delicious. Also ordered the Lemon Arugula Salad . Ordered the small... and the portion size was very generous. I loved this salad (and I'm not a big salad fan). Why not give a five star review? Well the overall experience was lacking a little, let me explain. The seating arrangement in the restaurant isn't ideal. It is a smaller space yet it is filled with overly large round tables taking up most of the real estate. We were sat in a huge round table, party of five, and it made us feel super far away from one another...I actually felt like I was part of the family sitting behind us since I was so close to them. The huge round table is actually blocking the corner so when they needed to get up I had to stand up to make space for them. The seating arrangement is almost a fire hazard. There's nothing more annoying then a wobbly table. The food runner plopped my pizza down as far away as possible, never made eye contact or bothered to care actually placing it by the person who ordered it. Half of the plates on the table were wet and slimy, giving an impression they were dirty. Drinks weren't refilled with timeliness. I ordered a Peroni because they have it on Draft (which is a huge plus) but it was brought to my table almost warm. The bar has an open partition to their outdoor seating area, and it was 100 degrees outside so maybe bring out the drinks in a timely manner? It's not like it's free. The owner or manager was in the kitchen scheming every pizza before it was boxed. This was great but also recommend a little attention to the service areas starting with the hostess stand. You have kids running your restaurant. Left a 20% tip but could not leave a four-five star review. Take Maggiano's for example, go there 2-3 times a year and always enjoy a 5 star experience for restaurants in this price range.

My wife and I wanted to have a date night and we'd heard a lot of good things so we decided to try them out. Right away, we knew this probably wasn't going to be the best night. After being seated for a few minutes, the waiter came over and introduced himself. Took our drink orders and then headed off to get them. My wife ordered a sangria drink that was not very colorful and okay tasting. I just had a regular beer. Also it took a little bit longer than expected to get the drinks. Next, we put in in order for two separate pizzas because we couldn't decide on which one we wanted to split so we figured we might as well try out a couple. And then the waiting began..... And we waited, and we waited, and then after that we waited some more. It took a good 30 to 45 minutes after he took our order just to get a refill on drinks. Now ordinarily this wouldn't be a bad thing if the restaurant was busy, but at this time it was not. They had a lot of employees, and most of them were standing around because there was nothing to do. Tables have been cleaned off, guests have been served I'm assuming. I even had time to drive and pick up our daughter from work and bring her back to have dinner with us. It was about a 20 minute drive there and back. We still hadn't received our pizzas. After a little over an hour, my wife got her pizza and she shared it with our daughter. Honestly wasn't bad. They do use fresh ingredients and I believe it's all made from scratch but there was nothing really unique about it. It's basic pizza that I feel you can get at most other non-franchised pizza places. So my wife and my daughter ate while I continued to wait.. about 25 minutes after they got their pizza they brought out mine. Mind you they had already finished eating so I ordered it to go box because I didn't want to make them wait while I ate my pizza. That took another 10 to 15 minutes. All in all, it was the long wait times that really affected my score on this one. Again I can understand if a restaurant is busy then there's going to be a wait time but like I said they were not busy. Half the place was empty. But maybe it was just a bad night, we probably will give them another shot, but that's probably not going to be for a while.

This restaurant continues to disappoint, normally it’s a little busy, weird shape pizza, a little burnt but today, walking in with a reservation made 30 days in advance, we walk in and immediately told it’s an hour wait for pizza. By the time we sit down, another person comes in to tell us it’s not one and a half to two hours. Another supervisor/ manager (Jackie or Jacklyn) comes in and tell us well it’s a 2 hour wait so you can stay or you can go. No apologies, not even an attempt at sympathy. That lady clearly lacks any management of leadership skills, personal skills and most definitely customer service skills, you would think that someone in the service industry would be trying to recover but no, in her mind we are the ones inconveniencing her. We were seated next to a neighbor that had been here since 5, and her pizza came out at 7. Another manager came by, he is personable and clearly more experienced. Immediately he listened and tried to recover, no excuses, and offered to assist. The server is also super nice, and trying to make a crappy situation better. Overall, taking reservations, and walking in with a reservation on Father’s Day to be told it’s 2 hours or you can leave is just unforgivable. I have been burnt too many times by Grimaldi and despite my sentimental attachment from growing up in NY with the name, this is nothing like it, it’s just a fast food chain, poorly ran, with no pizza standards. There should be a disclaimer saying we can’t make pizza, try at your own risk. This is my last trip to Grimaldi, try at your own risk.

If you are looking for excellent, tasting Pizza at its finest, then look no further than Grimaldi's Pizzeria. No other pizza brand matches the quality, brick-oven baked pies made by Grimaldi's brand.

That being said, I highly encourage you to visit either the La Canterra or Quarry location as opposed to the Stone Oak location. For years, my family and I have been faithful patrons of this location. However, it has sadly declined to a sub-par restaurant with perpetual customer service and management challenges that tarnish the brand.

Our pizza order is made incorrectly (more times than not), and to add insult to injury, we have (more times than I can count) have had to wait for over an hour just to get our Pizza order, only to have to wait another half hour for a correctly made Pizza to be placed at our table. The wait staff at first appears to be over-expended, but then if you look around long enough, most of them are just standing around at the cut table while my guests and I are awaiting refills, dining ware, etc without fail. You will also notice that several other unenthused guests at their respective tables are taking notice of this. When I approached management about this (twice), the passive aggressive response was "I'm sorry, we're doing the best we can, and you're welcome to leave if you are not happy."

As the principal of an established business here in San Antonio, it disappoints me to divert my dining experience with my family, friends, and business clients/partners away from this particular location. The lack of service and poor management style is completely unacceptable, from a customer standpoint. If I were the owner/chief operating officer, I would make it a point to personally visit this location and assess the perpetual decline of this restaurant that has been so endearing to me and hundreds of other patrons.

The brand has perfected Pizza like none other. But a perfect tasting Pizza made to order each time cannot resolve unaddressed operational issues (from a C-Suite level) that will negatively impact your company's bottom line and reputable brand. And to that end, I cannot give this location a 5-star review when I really wish...
