It’s not every day you get to meet the person an establishment is named after, but that’s exactly what happened last night when my friends and I went to grab a drink and enjoy some live music. We arrived just in time for Happy Hour on Friday, which runs from 2 p.m. to close—great prices and delicious drinks to start the evening off right. The atmosphere was fantastic, with vibrant vibes that made the night feel special. As the night went on, we got super hungry, and that’s when the real surprise hit. We started with fried okra and bacon, and I was blown away. The fried okra was perfectly crispy, paired with a homemade ranch that was simply irresistible. The bacon was sweet, cooked to perfection, and came hanging from a cool contraption—definitely a fun touch! The quesadilla we ordered next was out of this world. By the third dish, I knew the quality of the food was far beyond what I expected—it was clear these folks really care about what they serve and put so much love into every bite. My friends and I came for a good time, but we ended up leaving with full bellies and a new favorite spot to visit more often. But the night didn’t end there. Lucy, the owner (and the namesake of the restaurant), came by to serve us the best fried chicken in San Antonio—and quite possibly all of Texas! She wasn’t kidding when she said the bucket of fried chicken would be life-changing and spiritually awakening. It was absolutely the best fried chicken I’ve had since living in Georgia! Lucy’s hospitality was second to none. She personally checked on every guest, and her staff followed suit, making us feel like we were family. To top it off, we ordered her special beignets, which were to die for. When it was time to leave, Lucy herself was at the door, sending us off with a smile. This place has quickly become one of my top spots, all from just one visit. They’re committed to elevated service and food, and the use of beef tallow for frying is a game changer—it not only makes everything taste amazing but is also a healthier choice. Don’t forget to try their homemade sauces, especially the hot sauce! I truly hope everyone gives this place a try—you’re missing out...
Read moreThe 1st time I visited, it was great! The bartender was friendly and attentive even though she was busy. The drinks were good and the food was unique and enjoyable!
I went back on Monday since I enjoyed it so much. I sat at the bar again but initially had a difficult time getting help, even though it wasn't very busy. A female bartender came over, and I asked about Happy Hour. She stated it had ended. I thought her watch may have possibly been off, so I showed her there were still about 7 minutes left. She told me it was too close to 7 pm to order from their specials. I was shocked but went ahead and ordered a drink.
When my family arrived, they ordered drinks and food. I told our bartender that I would order food but needed more time. Sadly, 45 minutes passed, and I decided to tab out and go elsewhere to eat. She never came back to take my food order, nor was I able to get another drink! I ended up with one drink during the entire hour I was there. Being that I was a bartender during my college years, I can assure you that the place wasn't slammed enough to warrant the lack of service. (She had time to joke around and stand by the register with fellow staff members.) I let her know that I had been waiting for her to check on us and take my order but she never came back. Instead of an apology or lame excuse, she just shrugged her shoulders and gave me our check.
To make matters worse, we weren't even able to get the manager's attention as he never came to our end of the bar. He delivered food and drinks but didn't seem to speak to customers or help out behind the bar.
After such a promising first visit, I doubt I'll go back. The lack of customer service from both the bartender, as well as the manager, in addition to not honoring happy hour, is disappointing. With very little free time, I can't afford to waste an hour hoping to flag...
Read moreIt is a sports bar. Went because the menu looked good and someone recommended their drinks. A bit of a wait for the waitress. It wasn't busy. Ordered drinks. Those were good. Ordered the fried deviled eggs. They tasted old and not fresh. Nor was the fried part warm/hot. We had asked for the burgers to come at a different time than the appetizer. They came at the same time. Sort of... The waitress said how she did put them in for different times but guessed the cook didn't see it. We were busy talking and didn't even notice that the burgers were not what we ordered. Not til my companion had taken a bite. At that moment she, the waitress was walking up to the other table with an order did we all realize what she did. Mind you, 2 tables with 2 guests each. 1 table with 1 person. That was it for our side. She went to the back with our correct burgers. She didn't know what to do. Oops. Then came back out and gave us our burgers and left the other order with us still. My companion did not want the bacon blt. The bacon was thick and just fat. I was given a regular cheeseburger when I ordered the one with spam and added an egg. I can't complain about these 2. Do not order the Mississippi pot roast. So wrong in many ways. Over salted. Bland. It isn't a true Mississippi pot roast like you are thinking, soaked in that wonderful pepperchini juice and bites of the peppers. No. Oh no. Plain roast. 2 pieces of pepperchini. Soaked in a gravy that tastes like it came from a jar. Just gross. We didn't eat it and left it. So lots wrong with this visit. Go for drinks maybe? But I know plenty other places with bigger drinks for the same price. I'm not a lush but I love good value...
