We arrived around 8 45 Saturday night. The people that were at the door completely ignored me and left me standing there waiting. Finally the hostess signed us in.. We were told that it would be a 25 to 35 minute wait if we didn't mind. We didn't mine.. So we were called maybe 15 minutes later and walked in with this other party that we're coming to sign in when we were seated 5 minutes later they were seated. 10 minutes went by and nobody came by to talk to us or ask us if we wanted anything to drink. The people that were seated after us already had their drinks and someone had taken their order.. Finally somebody came and asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered 10 minutes after that when she finally came back and brought us crab cakes that tasted like they were sitting in oil all day and they were cold.. We were sitting there another 20 minutes and the server finally comes back to check on us and ask us how are we doing? I told her the people behind us that were seated way after us already had their drinks and food. Where was our food? Then she asked they didn't bring out your food? I thought she was supposed to do that. 10 minutes later our food was finally brought to us. We ate what we could. It's it tasted good. Then different people kept coming up to us telling us yeah we're closing but don't worry about it you can take as long as you need. Probably around 4 different people. Then they ask if we mind if they could mop the floor around us. Before we could answer they walked away and started mopping. The smell was so strong that we could not eat any more.. I asked for a to go bag because I could not eat anymore. The server apologized to us and removed the crab cakes off the bill and asked us if that was OK? I forgot that they had offered us fried pickles. That was also cold and not good at all. We were here last year and had an extremely amazing time. I don't know what happen but we were really...
Read moreTHEY DO NOT RESPECT FOOD ALLERGIES!!! They were given a week advance notice for my sister’s Cayenne allergy. (Yes I know it is not a common allergy, but it is when we take very seriously.) Then, when she arrived to the restaurant, they reminded the waitress about the allergy. When she ordered the food, she again reminded the waitress about the allergy. She even saw the waitress, put her allergy on the paper for the kitchen. She ordered a burger and the regular fries since obviously, Cajun fries have Cayenne. When the food came out, it was a burger sitting on top of Cajun fries. She obviously asked the waitress to replace everything on the plate as the Cayenne was all over everything the plate, the fries and the burger. The plate was taken back to the kitchen shortly later a new plate was brought out. She ate the food, assuming the kitchen and the staff respected her allergy. When she started to feel unwell, that’s when they asked the waitress, and it was discovered they only replaced the fries not the plate or the burger that was on top of the fries. She has been severely sick for two days now due to this. When The issue was brought up to staff. They tried to just push away the issue and not take any word serious. It wasn’t until the manager got involved that anyone in this restaurant acknowledged my sister’s allergy. At that point, it was too late since she’d already consumed Cayenne. So even though they were given multiple reminders about her allergy, they did not respect it and now my sister is suffering. Luckily it was the remnants that was on the burger so it wasn’t a lot of Cayenne that she was exposed to. They should have followed proper protocol whatever there is cross contamination. Just because her allergy is not common does not mean it should not be taken serious. I would not suggest going to this restaurant if you want to be taken seriously or if you don’t wanna end up in the hospital if you have a...
Read moreThis place! Hands down, THE BEST seafood boiler restaurant I've ever been to. I've been to numerous (not all, mind you) of seafood boilers in LV, HI, AZ, and CA. Red Hook is the best!
The food, for one, is served on a platter, not in a plastic bag. I can't help but feel I'm eating out of a clear kitchen trash bag. The seafood (lobster, green mussels, shrimp, and 2 kinds of (yes, we added to the meal see the pic) crab was boiled to perfection! The corn was crunchy and juicy, and the sausage just kicked the sauce into the right gear. Nothing chewy, nothing dry... in no way over or under done. It's like they boiled/cooked each item separately because, idk how each of the items came out to perfection! Theme size if each item did not disappoint!
The service was excellent. Our waitress had a trainee with her, and both were excellent. Checked on us, noticing we're good or was short on stuff on our table. Always smiling and was friendly enough to join in conversations with us. Both were very pleasant and well put together... the trainer is a people person, and her ways prove the "why" she is a trainer. And the trainee... she's going to fit in just great with the establishment.
Their atmosphere wins over all as well. The corny (but tasteful) under the sea theme all of the seafood boiler restaurants try to portray is done best here. I'm a sports fan, so the many TV screens throughout the restaurant are a plus.
I should mention they have a bar for while you wait for your table because, well as great as I'm rating this place, you can be sure the locals know about this place and it will get busy. The bar is a nice while you wait touch for the dining experience. We didn't need to wait long, actually.
If haven't tried YOU GOTTA TRY! If you're planning to be in San Antonio, make sure this place is on your I'll...
