Every year we make our anniversary dinner reservations at Ruth Chris Concord location in San Antonio. This year instead of the hostess merrily wishing us a happy anniversary and showing us to our table that was already prepared for us, she looked and said I see it's your anniversary, we are going to have to find you a table because we have a pretty big crowd tonight and our staff is overworked. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation we made a week ago. When we were lead back to our table there were no rose petals spread over table cloth like they normally placed and the table was set for three so we didn't even have a reserved table at all. The information about our anniversary was never passed onto our server or else he never bothered to mention it and we didn't get a complimentary dessert like they normally provide. Our calamari came out and we ended up sending it back because it was mostly breading, the calamari was hard to find being the size of a dime like they gave us the leftover pieces or something. It came out barely warm and had chopped up red and green bell peppers on it that was raw and ice cold like it just came out of the cooler. The calamari you did find was overcooked and was like chewing on pencil erasers. The oscar style steak did come out perfect as usual along with the potato casserole. However there are too many restaurants in San Antonio that has the same quality steaks with much better service. $230 for two was not worth it here with the service we got. It's a mixture of the experience of the atmosphere, exemplary service, and excellent food that kept me going to Ruth Chris for years on the holidays and special occasions. It just wasn't there this time.

The food was amazingly delicious. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms to start. Hot and tasty. The house salads had dressing that tasted homemade. Both the thousand island and the ranch were thick and creamy. We both got the filet mignon and lobster. The filet was cooked to perfection (which medium is hard to do for such a thick steak) and the lobster was tender and flavorful. They had little ceramic candle holders with the drawn butter to keep it hot. The baked potatoes were hot and fluffy with lots of butter. We got the roasted asparagus which was excellent. I wasn't a fan of the lyonnaise potatoes. It might have been the thyme. On a side note I pan fried the leftovers this morning and added a little onion and garlic powders, salt and pepper to have with our eggs for breakfast. I liked them much better. My husband had the cheesecake and I had the creme brulee for dessert (it was his birthday). Both were creamy and fabulous. Our waitress, Amy, was polite, professional and very attentive. Keep in mind this is an upscale restaurant so it is pricey. For a special occasion I feel it was worth the splurge. Plus we have enough leftovers to eat for dinner tonight. The atmosphere was nice but I think it was a little too noisy for such a nice restaurant so I knocked a star off for that. Aside from that it was a 5 star experience.

I went here my first night in town because it was extremely convenient to walk from my hotel. I’ve been to many Ruths Chris’s, but this location may be the best all around I always sit at the bar, and I suggest you do as well. Tony and Shawn are some of the finest and professional bartenders I’ve ever encountered. The first night I went, I had the petite filet (cooked exactly as ordered) and au gratin potatoes. The food was excellent but the masterpiece was the ranch waters the bartenders altered to my taste. I topped the night off with a coffee with baileys and Jemison and it was exactly the way I liked it. The service and food were so good, I went there the next night. The bartenders remembered my name, had a ranch water (exactly as I ordered the night before) waiting when I got back from the restroom, and the glass stayed full until I begged them to stop. I had the blackened snapper which was absolutely excellent. Yes. Ruth’s Chris is expensive, but at least at this location, the food and service are at the top of there class. Drinks are strong pours in over sized glasses. Food portions are always more than I can eat. So, factoring the equation, I could argue it’s quite a value. I don’t give 5 stars often. Anthony, Shawn, and their coworkers deserve all 5!

A Shocking Mother’s Day Experience at Our Favorite Restaurant

Our family has always considered this Ruth's Chris location our go-to spot for special occasions because of its consistently excellent food and service. That’s why our Mother’s Day experience was so profoundly disappointing—and frankly, shocking.

From the moment we were seated, our server (whom I’ll refer to as "D") made us feel like an inconvenience. What should have been a celebratory meal turned into an exercise in frustration:

The Service Failures: Ignored basic requests: We asked multiple times for drink refills, bread, and to have unused water glasses removed. Each request was met with eye rolls, sighs, or outright refusal. Botched our entire order: Despite ordering six bone-in ribeyes, we received only four bone-in steaks, while my parents were given the wrong cut entirely. Sides were missing, and salads were incorrect. 45-minute wait just to order —and another 30 minutes with no food, drinks, or bread afterward.

The Unprofessional Behavior: Openly complained about us to other staff, the manager, and even other tables, calling us "difficult" within earshot. Refused simple requests (like extra butter) with attitude. Publicly berated elderly guests for adjusting a window blind, shouting across the dining room instead of handling it professionally.

Joey & Carlos Saved the Night: Thankfully, manager Carlos intervened and assigned us Joey, who was everything a server should be: Immediately corrected D’s mistakes (wrong steaks, missing sides, drink refills). Cleared our cluttered table and brought fresh iced teas with lemons. Ensured my parents’ correct meals were rushed (though they ate after the rest of us). Comp’d my parents’ meals and provided free desserts —a fair gesture, but not enough to undo the stress.

The Bigger Problem: D’s behavior wasn’t just a one-off—we watched her treat multiple tables with the same disdain. Ruth’s Chris is a premium brand; servers like her have no place here.

Moving Forward: We’ll only return if we can request Joey, who upheld the standards we expect. Otherwise, we’ll dine elsewhere. Management must address this —guest should pay premium prices for insulting service.

I am thankful that Carlos the manager put Joey in charge of our table and removed D from the situation. Had he not done that we would’ve had a terrible time. Thank you, Joey for being an...

This will be a two part story sorry for the biography went there on mother's Day they was a total of six in our party we sit down the lady took our drink orders it took her almost 20 minutes to bring two cocktails out mind you it was not very busy we went early normally when you sit down they normally bring your bread out right away never happened bought our appetizers out no bread there was a glass of ice tea that we did not like it was too strong and we asked her several times to remove it she came back to get the wine cups off and we again try to handle the iced tea and she got very upset I cannot put this iced tea on this tray and we said okay she had a bad attitude then our salads came out and the salads came out totally wrong we ordered wedge salads she brought steakhouse salad when we at requested wedge salads at this point my niece asked to speak to the manager well she had the manager in the corner and was speaking to him on her own saying all the things that was going on at the table and I happen to hear it I was walking by and she specifically mentioned how he was trying to give her a glass of iced tea that she could not put on that tray so we asked for a new servers and we got a great guy his name is Joey he normally works the bar area but he was willing to help us Now remember she was the one that took our total order so when Joey brought out our steaks the whole table had the same steak a cowboy ribeye she even put that in wrong she bought three bone in ribeyes and two without the bone so Joey apologized and had to get us two bone-in ribeyes redone so the rest of the table had dinner while we waited but that being said Joey well made up for the problem and so did management I would recommend anybody going to Ruth Chris try to sit at the bar and ask for Joey he is the nicest kindest person there is and made it right we almost got up and left but then we seen that he was very nice and had a smile on his face not like our first server that look like she was crying I will make sure when I go there I will not get her I I was going to put her name on here but...

First of all , the service from our waitress was horrible. She was so disrespectful and quick to judge from our looks. I took my fiancée to this steakhouse for her Birthday, since I went to this restaurant before and had a great time ( the steaks were good for the most part), so I said why not to treat her to a fancy dinner. We are a young couple and most people would think we look younger then we look. But the way the our waitress Amy( older blonde women) judged us by our age. She attended to the other tables with either older couples/ families, just because they had bigger wallets then us , who is she to judge us and not give us immediate service ( there was hardly anyone in the restaurant at the time). We waited 20 minutes before I lost my patience, we didn't even get our drinks and even get a chance to order our food! I talked to the the host in the front telling her about our horrible experience on my fiancé birthday( also I reserved the table a week in advance , and the table wasn't even set up for 2). Overall our experience there was horrible even for a 4 star restaurant, I will not go there again nor recommend people about this place. I'm am so disgusted how some people judge us on how much money we make, there reason why I brought my fiancé there is because I had money to splurge on a fancy dinner. She was so upset and embarrassed , I found another restaurant "Cheesecake Factory" , and even with the whole restaurant filled to max, we got a table within 5minutes , served our drinks less than a few minutes, got our food less than 20 minutes, and our dessert almost immediately. Our service at CheeseCake Factory was AMAZING, nothing less than that. I would totally Recommend people to go there over Ruth Chris steak house mainly because your treated with better service and...
