Social distancing not enforced at all. Food underseasoned & bland. Employees uniformed. Crowded, loud. Unimpressed. Second visit. Still not impressed. Overall disappointing experience. Counter order style, get in line, make your order, come back when they call you to pick it up. Very busy on our weekday visit, crowded and loud. Social distancing is not being enforced at all. Employees were difficult, reluctant to give extra to go containers, some employees not completely knowledgeable, menu not flexible (one employee mentioned one price, told me otherwise when they tried to ring it up, gave me incorrect information on flavors, number of flavors I could order for wings, had to change order couple times because "not allowed"; menu says $1 each extra tilapia for the Catfish platters, but turns out it is not for each but for all since can only make them all tilapia or nothing).
1/2 lb Snow Crab & 1/2 lb Shrimp ($19) 16 Piece Wings (8 Spicy Cajun & 8 Lemon Pepper) ($14) 4 Catfish Fillets & Fries ($11) A la Carte Tilapia Filet ($3) Vegetable Fried Rice (Regularly $6) +Cocktail, Ranch, Seafood Sauces ($1) +Drinks (Regularly $3 each)
Everything pretty average, except the crab and shrimp were very flavorful, but considering the price, still nothing exceptional. It was irritating that everything was extra- all sides and sauces was an additional charge. This is notable because as detailed below, the extra sauces were a need- not a compliment- to many of the bland dishes. Wings were meagerly seasoned, with some pieces moist and tender, others dry and in need of those extra condiments! Catfish were impressively sized; flaky and mostly tender in the middle, but sides were dry and overfried. Tilapia piece was very good, tender and moist all around, slightly less breading than the catfish, which was a good thing. Accompanying fries were actually better than average, a tad mushy but warm, well seasoned. The vegetable fried rice was the worst, no flavor whatsoever; especially disappointing considering this business is owned by Asians. Poured on that extra sauce from the boiled seafood to make it edible.
As mentioned earlier, during these times, the greatest complaint was still the blatant disregard for social distancing. Despite signs and stickers on the floor, the rules were not being followed and no one seemed to care. Employees were wearing masks, but that was the extent to their care. The tables are very closely placed together and none were blocked for patrons. Thus, we walked in looking forward to a nice sit-down meal, but instead escaped to a nearby park only to be awarded with...
Read moreIt’s hard for a restaurant like this to exist in this city and San Antonio NOT be known as a foodie city. I would describe how good the food is here but the only way to do that is with sounds….yes that good. We ordered At least 13 items off this menu on what seemed to be a busy night as the line went from register to door a couple times and not one item we got tasted as it had been sitting there. I dare to even say it’s made as you order. Hard to confirm though being the only glimpse of the kitchen you get is when they open the trap window to get your food from the kitchen. It’s an odd combination of items with wings, seafood and Chinese food but SA Seafood found a way to make it work! The serving sizes are just as big as your eyes when you first see the menu and the price is well worth it too! If you haven’t heard about this place or tried it then please get out more. Only reason it lacks a star is customer service (which wasn’t bad) and venue size. This is not a place to mingle with staff which could be good or bad pending how you see it. It’s more of a get in order and get out type of place. But with the southern flavor and style of the food and portion sizes to match I would have wanted the southern hospitality to go along with it. Other than that, this is a HIGHLY recommended place for families, dates, or even just a night of you and the tv and want to reward your tastebuds. To SA Seafood, keep doing you and PLEASE look into a 2nd location hopefully...
Read moreChoose this place for my bday lunch with my coworkers. Cozy little local spot with available seating when we went. I wanted Cajun seafood....perfect place for it. Different options available for those who don't like seafood. Prices are reasonable.
I'll review my meal last...lol just cause it was amazing and i want to give details.
One coworker got fried catfish with fries and the other coworker got lemon pepper chicken with fries. We also shared an order of jalapeno poppers. From what they said, it was good. I tried a wing and it was good, not dried, just the right about of seasoning. Catfish was also good, flakey and not mushy. Poppers were good too, nothing special, just poppers.
Now for my meal...I ate good.....like good good!! My meal was amazing!!! I got half a pound of shrimp and half a pound of snow crab legs. Didn't get any sides for myself. I was very satisfied without it. I got the garlic butter flavor with this sauce on the side. I forgot what the sauce was called but it was magical....suuuuper delicious. I was given a crab cracker and went to town. Crab was easy to open, meat was juicy and flavorful. Finished all the crab cause I don't have a cracker at home. I ate a few shrimp but took the rest home. The shrimp were plump and easy to peel. They too were just as flavorful just like the crab. That sauce though, was sooo good.
I would definitely go again and again. Highly...
