What To Order: Pork Belly Tacos This was my first visit to Sanchos, so I took the recommendation of a friend and ordered the Pork Belly Tacos. You arrive directly facing the kitchen and order window. To the left there is a door, where you can find a full bar and indoor seating. After ordering you are given a number tent to put on your table. They had a $2.75 beer special, so I ordered a Tecate. Inside the bar & table area is a stage, where some local bands were playing. In addition to the indoor seating there is rooftop deck with several picnic tables that cover the entire roof area. We took the last remaining table to wait for our food. The view from the roof is actually pretty good, and is a good place to just hang out and enjoy some food and beer. It only took a few minutes for the food to arrive, but the tacos were overly small and lacked even an acceptable portion of meat. An order of 3 was $9 and came with no sides. These were 2-3 bite tacos at best. The onion, cilantro and salsas flavor overpowered the flavor of the pork belly. I was thinking to myself that each of these $3 tacos looked like tiny food from a childs easy bake oven. It would take at least 2-3 orders of these before I could consider them a meal. My friend who had eaten there before commented that the tacos were normally small, but these were abnormally small as far as the amount of meat and toppings on them. He actually contemplated going back to the kitchen to ask what was going on. The tacos had good flavor, the corn tortillas were really good, but the pure size of them were the major turn off. You can see in the picture the 1/4 slice of a lime is almost as big as all the contents of 1 taco. Overall it was the cost to portion size that ruined the entire experience. We left ( still hungry ), and went to a fast food restaurant to order more food. I would recommend the place as a good spot to hang out, grab a beer and maybe snacks, as I don't feel the entrees can be considered a meal at all. 3 Pork Belly Mini-Tacos & 1 Tecate beer special. $15.00

If you find yourself in the Five Points area, you need to check this place out. I've driven by it many times, and finally decided to check it out. Holy cow, I didn't realize what I was missing out on! They have a nice outdoor seating area with plenty of shade, the service is quick, and the staff are very friendly. On weekends, the menu items are a la carte, such as tacos, nachos, tortas, etc. But M-F from 11a to 4p, each order includes rice, beans, and chips and salsa. The Pollo Adobado tacos ($8.99) includes three shredded chicken tacos topped with cilantro, and pineapple (normally, it's topped with chopped onions, but we chose to hold the onions on this one and add avocado slices for $1.50). They were very generous with the slices (dare I say SLABs) of avocado. It was well worth the $1.50 upcharge. VERY tasty marinade on the pollo - not too garlicky and just the right amount of spice to it. The order of Carnitas tacos ($7.99) consisted of three tacos (all of the taco orders on the menu include three tacos). The tender, marinated pork tacos were topped with cilantro, chopped onions, and slices of pickled onions. Sometimes carnitas can be overly salty - not the case here. The pork was perfectly caramelized and was very juicy - not dry at all. The corn tortillas were deep fried and I would almost call them borderline "puffy" tacos. Very good and tasty! Oh yeah - try the empanadas as an appetizer ($5.99). Hot, fresh, and tasty!

Been here a few times... 3rd to last time, an ADDITIONAL tip was added to my total after processing that I did not approve! 2nd to last time, I got double charged!!! Last time (today) my friend and I both had the 6.00 bowl SIX DOLLARS, it has an option to add protein- so, my friend added chicken tinga and I added bistec. Our bowls went from 6.00 each to 20.98 and 21.98... um... Whaaat?? The bowl itself is small. It's the size of the bowls you get nachos in at a little league concession stand. We asked our server to show us where the prices are for the added protein, her response was, "We had the same complaint from people last night and I told the manager, but he didn't budge"- I asked to speak to a manager, she said there was only her, the bartender and cook there at the time and someone would be there later. We each had a drink with these bowls and our tickets totaled 30.00ish dollars each. This is a total bamboozle! After the fact, we will take accountability for not asking how much extra the protein would be, but GEEZ, would anyone think 15.00 added?!?! I don't think so! Plus, since our server mentioned there were complaints the night before, I would think she would mention a possible hefty upcharge? This was a total rip off. We're never going back. 3 strikes, Sancho's, you are OUT! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TICKETS. ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN BECAUSE THEY CLEARLY DON'T GIVE A CRAP

HERES MY EMAIL I SENT SANCHOS Sanchos Cantina & Cocina (never responded to me)

Good Afternoon,

On the evening of September 28th, myself and 17 other family members went to have dinner in memory of my uncle Joe, we had just came from Angelus funeral home after his rosary and your venue was very nearby. I have never received such horrible service. We can begin with the wait it took before we even were greeted by a server that was about a 15 minute wait at least, ordering food was chaotic, credit cards were collected at the beginning of the night- something I have never seen done at a restaurant, when we received our food it was placed with the wrong people, we were never even told which dish was which we had to figure it out by seeing what ingredients were in it-chicken, beef or vegetarian , our drinks took forever to be brought to us at least another 15 minutes- long enough for several of us to go down to the bar order drinks on separate tabs and return to the table, my son and cousin did not receive their order until about 20 minutes after everyone else, water cups were passed out, picked up and refilled and re-distrusted among the table all mixed up, my uncles water cup had lipsick it on it, my cousins water cup had a crumpled receipt at the bottom of it, the food was decent at best, we had to frequently remind the servers that we were still waiting on refills or for orders that had not been brought out. Our overall experience was horrible especially coming from such an emotional event it was the last thing we needed to occur. I called and spoke to the manager- Mia Cortez- she was unapologetic and was only willing to reimburse the items that were incorrectly billed to my sisters bill, which was $11.10. There was 15 adults and 3 children in our party, we spent hundreds of dollars there easily, between rounds of tequila shots, alcohol orders and food and received horrible service. The way the manger handled my call I felt the need to reach out to you. She did not even express any condolences for the passing of my uncle which in itself was very disrespectful, we live in a city that is full of compassionate people and someone in a managerial position should have more empathy and make guests feel more appreciated, I have been treated better at a fast food restaurant. It is just a shame that our first experience with your place went this way. I will compliment you on the beautiful view from the second story, it is a great location, our experience could have gone so differently and it is quite a shame. We had guests from Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and the Woodlands. I would appreciate a response to this email and I am interested to know how you react. I will await your response before we share our experience with our friends and family.

Thank you for your time and consideration. n all write a review. Have a happy Monday!...

Every now and then you walk into place that makes you wish you lived in that city. If I ever move to San Antonio, it’ll be because of Sanchos. With countless restaurants and bars in walking distance of our event venue, we still made it a point to grab a Lyft and make it back to Sanchos for our final night in town. Some aesthetics and the laid back atmosphere were reminiscent of a Mid-Atlantic/DMV punk dive, just cleaner. Both the food and drinks were on point and the staff is amazing.

Their frozen margaritas are marked as famous, and while not always a frozen margarita drinker, I had to give them a shot…I was really cold and it wasn’t the best move, but worth it. They truly are delicious, thick and smooth. For faster and not as chilling consumption, I did switch to traditional margaritas “with heat” and they do an amazing job of pairing the flavor for a spicy margarita using Haitian Heat. The 1800 Mule was also stellar. I unfortunately don’t recall all the drinks my colleague tried aside from a Paloma, but he loved them all.

Worth noting, they’re also dog friendly which is nice to see when you’re on the road missing your pups.

Haran was our bartender on both occasions and he is a beast with the drinks, but also very attentive, friendly, funny and helpful. I try not to be complicated with ordering, but also had an overwhelming week and couldn’t decide on things. It’s awesome to walk into a place and be educated on options with intuitive food/drink suggestions. Lance was like a machine, hard at work and knocking out margarita batches, but we luckily had the pleasure of chatting with him (he’s far better at multitasking than I) and learning more about the place.

A final shoutout to the server with the pink bangs, I somehow, subconsciously made it my personal mission to always be in her way. She was friendly, fun and hilarious as well, I’m ashamed I missed her name, but she’s awesome.

My only regret is that we had pre-planned on our second visit to pick up koozies or other merch that we forgot the first trip, but our Lyft arrived sooner than expected and we failed. Luckily, I found they sell merch online as well and was able to order! The crowd was super diverse and I can’t give you a recommendation on it being a good place for a specific occasion, it’s just a killer place for anyone, compete with indoor, outdoor and rooftop seating. If you’re visiting San Antonio, it’s worth escaping the tourist rush to check out this place, or just go there every night of your visit. If you’re a local…you know more places than I do, but you should still go here.

Thanks to all the staff at Sanchos for the stellar food, drinks and experience! You totally made our week and brought loads of relief to a...
