Honestly Instagram and social media over hyped this place. We came in Saturday night around 7:45pm to try desserts here for mine and my husband's date. We are very familiar with middle eastern/Mediterranean/Turkish deserts sold there from other places in different cities.
Upon walking in it smelled of skunky mildew, and loud clamoring from the shared restaurant space they have. Seating is eclectic cute and the desserts they have look tasty.
They aren't. They have cheap fillers and cut corners because most residents here in this city dont know any better and dont know what good food/desserts taste like. So they cater to a limited pallet. I chose a baklava square, and a Dubai strawberry "chocolate" cup. Husband got a blackberry tart--usually he goes for Turkish delight but they looked stale and not fresh.
The baklava is straight up sugar. You can taste the granular bits and that's not the pistachios. There is no honey, nutty flakyness--only sugar sweet. Made me GAG. The strawberry cup was disgusting. The crispy kitaifi was abysmal and the pistachio creme was watery. THE CHOCOLATE WAS CHOCOLATE PUDDING. you have GOT to be kidding me. They rough cut chunky strawberry at the bottom getting soggy and poorly layer the pudding and green slop (because they dont take pride in what they make) and charge damn near 13$.
Husband's blackberry tart was gross too. Crust is store bought, custard broke and straight up grainy sugar, the fruit glaze is from Sam's.
The elderly lady with short black hair was rushing our order to the counter nearly ontop of the customer in front of us' order. Yikes.
Atmosphere is confusing at best, tackyish at worst. Desserts are disgusting here and social media lies per usual. Elderly lady employee rushes people. We won't be going back.
We will keep our business to Houston's Golden Roastery. THEY take pride in the...
Read moreI ordered a custom cake from this bakery for my wife’s birthday. I ordered in person, gave specific instructions for what we wanted with photos as guidance. I saw the person write down the entire order. It was a pretty simple order. An 8” round chocolate cake, with chocolate buttercream frosting on the outside, and chocolate mousse in between the layers. I gave pictures on the piping decor I wanted. The cake we received looked pretty nice when we received it, but once we cut into it and started eating it, it became obvious the cake was not what we ordered. First of all, the icing on the outside was not buttercream. Italian or American. It was almost like some really thick chocolate pudding or custard. Secondly, the bottom of cake was filled with strawberries, and they were still practically frozen. We did not ask for any kind of fruit in our cake, and them being frozen made it kind of difficult to eat. I have tried emailing the business, called 5 times to ask about getting some money back. Two times I got someone on the phone and then the call dropped. Other 3 times it went to voicemail, so I left a message. Have never heard back from them. We paid $120 for this cake. It wasn’t a bad cake, it just wasn’t what we asked for, and kind of disappointing to not get exactly what you want when you pay that much. This place has great pastries and cakes in the case, and the restaurant next door is one of our favorite places, so I hate to be harsh on a small business, but a small refund...
Read moreWhat an incredible place I've just experienced! This charming establishment is full of authentic desserts that transport you straight to the heart of the Middle East. If you're someone like me who doesn't enjoy overly sweet treats, you'll find the desserts here to be perfect. The Baklava, in particular, was a delightful surprise—reminiscent of my travels to Turkey, with its delicate layers and balanced sweetness.
The star of the show, however, was the Turkish delight. These little confections are a must-try, offering a variety of flavors that burst with authenticity and craftsmanship. The texture was spot on—soft yet chewy, with just the right amount of sugar to highlight the natural flavors.
The atmosphere of the place added to the experience. It felt as though I had stepped into a cozy Turkish café, complete with warm, inviting decor and friendly staff eager to share their knowledge of each dessert's origins and preparation methods.
I highly recommend this Turkish delight place to anyone looking to indulge in a sweet journey through the flavors of the Middle East. Whether you're a dessert enthusiast or simply curious, this spot offers a unique experience that will leave you...
