Food was great; service was lacking. I arrived to the restaurant a bit late in the evening (8pm), so perhaps that is why no one was there to greet me when I walked into the restaurant. I stood there at the entry area waiting for a hostess for about 3 minutes. It turned out that the hostess had been talking to other employees and just was not watching the door. I had arrived alone and wanted a table. The hostess saw me and asked my name. She assumed I had arrived to pick up a delivery. I explained that I had not yet ordered and that I wanted to eat. She seemed surprised. She asked if I wanted to sit at a table, booth, or the sushi bar. I opted for the sushi bar. This was my first time to ever eat at this restaurant. I did not know the procedure, so I sat down and looked at the menu. The employee behind the sushi bar said something to me. I did not quite catch what he said, unfortunately, so I just assumed he was asking for my order. I told him which sushi I wanted and also asked if I could get a glass of tea. He said yes. Then, a few minutes later, a waiter came over to me and asked me what I wanted to eat. Oh....I was embarrassed. I had told my order to the sushi bar guy and that was incorrect. Sigh. I told the waiter that I wanted tea and then the sushi bar guy explained which sushi I ordered. I felt pretty silly. I filled up my little soy sauce bowl while waiting for my food. The food was outstanding. I don't remember the name of the sushi that I picked, but it was one of the ones which has a deep fried batter on it. Very good. Afterwards I had to get the sushi guy to flag down the waiter so that I could pay my bill. I ended up tipping the sushi bar guy for all he had done...and then I went ahead and tipped the waiter...I suppose because it is expected. The waiter really did not do much at all. He had gotten me my tea, yes. But the sushi bar guy prepared my sushi and then handed it to me, so the waiter really had no part in that. I really felt that the tip should go to the sushi bar guy, but then I felt too embarrassed to not leave a tip for the waiter, even though he did not do much. 5 stars for the food. 2 stars for the service (sushi bar guy was great, waiter was meh, and hostess was a fail). Averages out to 4 stars. I will be back. I hope that service improves. 4...
Read moreAbsolutely hated this restaurant. Dinner on a Saturday night - we expected to wait, but we didn't expect to be given a table and THEN wait for an hour and a half. Worse than that, it took the waiter thirty minutes to bring our drinks to the table. I can maybe understand the kitchen being backed up, but not the bar. Then had to send our drinks back - neither was made right, both had half-melted ice and condensation on the cup, indicating they'd been sitting on the bar for a long time without being delivered.
The waiter didn't know the first thing about the menu or Japanese food. Asked him what his favorite item was and he literally said "Everything." He had something in his teeth. That was gross. His clothes were disheveled ... who is running the back of the house?
Once we ordered and got our food (it took 90 minutes from sitting down to getting our "appetizer") it was cold and had been sitting somewhere in the kitchen for too long. How did we know? Besides the temperature (could have used it to cool down our watery overpriced drinks) there was congealed oil/butter on the plate, like when you leave a plate in the sink overnight. We didn't eat a bite of it.
At this point we wanted to leave, but the manager came after we complained and said he wouldn't charge us for the appetizer, so we got the rest of our food. Worst. Sushi. Ever. The salmon was like a plastic bag in both taste and texture. Sushi rice appeared to be vinegar-less, made like ten hours ago in a rice cooker, and was even the wrong kind of rice (??!?!) which was a total shame. A steak dish (the word "steak" is right there in the name) was more like a piece of dry roast beef or something, texture and flavor were off, the temperature wasn't right. I don't understand this restaurant. They should rename it Horribletown.
Will not ever go back. Wouldn't send my least-favorite enemy here. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
OH WAIT, I almost forgot. Remember the appetizer that we couldn't eat, the one the manager promised not to charge us for? Sure enough when the bill came, it was there. I was too pissed and disappointed to argue it, so we paid it and left. I...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went here for date night on a Monday evening. The next hibachi table was an hour wait, which we were a little weary of. We put our names down and checked out another Hibachi down the highway, and ended up going back to Osaka. It was worth it. The hostess was very nice, and we ended up being sat at a table with no one else. (Seemed like a fairly slow night). That was nice because we were able to have a nice private dinner (which I know is not typical, since the tables are set up for 8). We had Chef Jesse and he was amazing. Very entertaining, funny, and kept us smiling and laughing through the entire meal. Our waiter was amazing as well. I want to say his name was Lon? He was good at checking in with us, and made sure that we had our appetizers to hold us off while we waited for Jesse to finish with his last table. While eating our appetizers, the waiter kept us informed and let us know that as soon as Jesse was done at the table across from us, he'd be right over. That table had 6 guests, and 3 of them were small children. He seemed to interact with them VERY well and kept the little ones entertained. The gyoza was very good, it's lightly fried, and the flavor is great! Salad is always my favorite, it's a typical Asian style salad, lettuce mix with a ginger sauce. Miso soup was very good, and had small bits of tofu. We had the Chef special A for two people. It came with steak, chicken, shrimp, fried rice and vegetables. All of which were seasoned well and tasted great. I enjoy the fact that they do not OVER season anything, and you can actually taste the vegetable or meat you're eating rather than having it drown in sauces. Speaking of sauces they do give you 3, one was a mayonnaise/aioli style sauce Chef Jesse told us he just prepared. There was a mustard based sauce and a ginger sauce. I loved all 3, and he was very informative about which sauce paired well with which meat. Hot sauce was much to spicy for me, but my boyfriend did enjoy it. Overall we left this place with smiles on our faces, very full and satisfied. We also had enough food left over to eat another dinner...
