I adopted two bonded boys from Catty Shack in September 2021. The first few months of their lives they were both plagued with upper respiratory infections, ringworm, and eye issues. I fully believe that taking them to the Gulf Coast Veterinary, as advised, caused more harm than good because they didn't have ringworm prior to visiting there. I took them to a private vet to get some healing for my two boys.
Last year on September 8th I lost my boy Smokey to some type of cardiac issue. He was only 3. On September 5 of this year I lost my boy Bandit in almost the same exact manner. I thank heavens to be there for both of their passing, but the pain of losing them is immense.
I am writing this to tell my story and the things I have learned. I wasn't always a cat person. I adopted a girl from the Humane Society in Fort Myers, and at 3 years old she passed from FIP. Then I adopted my two boys. I never knew that these adoption places were a breading ground for illness. Multiple cats sharing litter boxes is dangerous for some cats.
FIP and the Herpes Virus and spread from cat to cat. Even with vaccination the Herpes Virus can still come back in your cat. FIP can linger as well, and can be deadly. Not all cats shed the virus.
I did notice that when I went to the Catty Shack that numerous cats were thin and had eye issues. Some were very lethargic. Stress in cats can also activate the FIP and the Herpes Virus, and I fully believe that this environment is a big stressor.
I have lost 3 cats in 5 years. I thought I was doing the good thing by adopting and supporting them. I often wonder how many others have adopted pets only to be crushed by their illness and untimely deaths. My heart goes out to the...
Read moreI want to address some of the reviews on here, first..im so glad kids under 7 can not interact with the cats...most of these kittens just had surgery and the children that came in while we were there...(age maybe 8-10) were not only picking the cats up wrong, but they were not watched well and all in our space.(why are your parents not saying anything?).. Parents, when you come with your kids..watch them pls and respect other ppls space, we dont want your kids all up in our face, scaring the kittens we have in our little area...so thats my rant on that. Also to the other review, kittens are kittens, they tend to hide...exp if alot of ppl are in the room or if they just had surgery...so dont complain about them hiding, if you want to play with them, seek them out of their hiding area and you will find they will snuggle nicely on your lap. Ok for the good part, it was our first time there, I thought it was so cool to be able to visit a cat cafe ...while I didnt now about reservations nor the price ( it is a little steep) we still were able to do our thing there, with plenty of kittens to pet. The place is cool, nice unqiue coffee flavors, snacks, just a cute lil spot and the staff was nice. We will be back. Just beware, they have lots of little kid bday parties there, I kinda wish they would have a time for kids 12 and under, then kids 13 and older had their own space, bc again, some parents now in days just let their kids run rampant and its slightly annoying to us older ppl who just want our own space and want to visit ..calmly. I recommend visiting though maybe just be mindful of the day and time...very cute cute place and...
Read moreI LOOOOOOOOOOVE coming to Cattyshack Cafe!! Whenever I visit the area, it's my go to spot! Not only are the drinks delicious, but they have really great snacks. Their muffins are great! All of the drinks and treats are cat themed! I really like The Tabby and the Meowchiatto.
When you visit, the cats are in a separate room with a glass wall (called the Mulligan Room). There is a separate air ventilation system as well, so if you are allergic, you can still visit and watch the cats while enjoying your beverage and food! Reservations are highly recommended to enter. This will ensure that there is a safe ratio of humans - cats. The cafe and cat room are so clean and the staff is so friendly! You can tell that the owners and staff love what they do and are making a difference.
There is also a really cool gift shop with goodies for you and your feline friend(s). Their mission is to help kittens and cats get adopted and to date, they have had over 2,200 adoptions! The number of cats may vary at times, but this is a full service cafe with RESCUE cats available for ADOPTION. And that's the whole point - to help kittens and cats find their FURRRREVER HOME! Every purchase and visit you make goes back to supporting the cats. Highly recommend if you are visiting or local to the area. I can't wait until my...
