Alfredo's Pizzeria — Restaurant in San Diego

We really wanted to like this pizza, but it just didn't impress. They were one of a few places open on Thanksgiving day for delivery, so with few options, our expectations were low. The cheese reminded me of the American sliced variety from a convenience store. The pepperoni was passable and black olives just along for the ride. The worst, absolutely unforgivable crime, however, was the dough. It clearly didn't get enough time to prove, because it tasted like all its ingredients, rather than the magic of bread, as a pizza crust should. Every bite brought back taste bud memories of raw flour, Play-Doh, and cardboard. I think with some active yeast and patience, this pie might have a chance. Until then, don't expect miracles. I would've never gotten my serving of Lycopene if I hadn't gone in for a late night treat at this hole in the wall - they have slices for just shy under $3.80 each that are actually worth your time and is more nutrient packed bc the ingredients are fresh - this is homemade local Italian vibes pizza in San Diego. Def will come back. They have way more on the menu (all the classics) of a pizzeria with the touch knowing this is made to order (except the slices those were already made and they heat it up for you) but even after all of this the dough was crisp, light, and pleasant and the toppings on the Margherita slice did not disappoint. I'd eaten here a couple times when I first moved to Hillcrest but I didn't notice they stay open till 2am! All the nights i'd gotten home from work too seemingly too late to get anything besides stuff that shouldn't even be fed to animals. Clowns and other mascots for spokespersons, that will probably one day go the way of Joe Camel, work on some people but i can't do that to myself. Anyway I'm rambling... There is a very reasonable special that seems to always be available that gets you 2 big slices and a can of soda (or beer for a little more) for under 10 bucks. That's very reasonable considering the way the price of EVERYTHING has gone up except wages.
