California Fish Grill — Restaurant in San Diego

Love their food!!! We will be back for sure! We hardly eat out, yet when we do we always look for places that have healthier options which will fill us up on a budget. I will admit it's a little pricey for our family budget to even attempt to eat here a couple times a week; however, I would love to at least try dining in two or three times a month. Today we got to splurge a little and I'm glad we did. Now the portions, taste, and quality of ingredients are awesome! We love seafood and this hit the spot! Nice social distancing areas and equipment inside and outside. My daughter wanted the ahi poke bowl; unfortunately, they were all out. Instead, she ordered the Cajun shrimp tacos and she's very pleased with it. When you don't talk while eating and give a thumbs up with the okay sign we know it's good! Loooooved the asparagus!! My favorite is the salmon bowl! Shout out to their crew that was there when we ordered this evening. The staff was very friendly and one of them told us about some of her favorites for us to try next time. They got a little slammed while we were there, and the crew was just jamming away getting the food out in a timely fashion. Nobody arguing or looking confused about what order goes where. They just flowed like water. I love customer service like that. It makes me feel good seeing them cooperate like that. I say that because I've been to places when it was chaotic. The environment was very uncomfortable to be in and to see staff getting upset with each other and yelling in front of customers was not okay. I have left several places because of that. Food is great, customer service is terrible. I called to cancel my online order since there was no option to on their website. I was told by Jessica that they would have to email IT to cancel my order and it would take 5-7 business days to get my refund. I asked why it would take so long since I had never experienced this before when trying to cancel an order and was told “that’s just how it works.” I did not appreciate Jessica’s attitude and the tone of her voice. Since it seems like you don’t have any customer service experience I’ll give you some free advice. For the next customer try, “I apologize for the lengthy refund process, but unfortunately only our IT team has the ability to process refunds for online orders, so it does take a few days. I will be sure to email them right away to get this resolved.” A little warmth and understanding goes a long way. Editing my review to say the place was very clean this time we went. We ate outside on the dog friendly patio. Price is still a bit high but you get a decent amount of fish so I guess it balances out. Be sure to try the different sodas in the soda fountain, they're really good!

Original review: The food here was really good! The price was ok. The price was better than some sit down places of course but it seemed on the high end for what I should pay when I have to pick up my tray of food myself. However, the quality of the food was enough I felt fine about this price (the shrimp was superb!).
