I usually really enjoy my drinks and breakfast ciabatta sandwiches from better buzz.
Today I found 2 things in my drink. One is a major food safety concern that resulted in a cut to the roof of my mouth.
I found a coffee bean first which I threw out and ignored. The bean was slightly squishy but solid after sitting in the liquid. I just figured oh well, they’re a coffee shop and stuff happens.
Next, I found a small sharp piece of plastic. I nearly swallowed it but I had to use my tongue to stop it from sliding down my throat and it cut the roof of my mouth. It was not squishy like to bean. It’s black and almost the length of one side of the recycling ♻️ symbol on the lid. I’m grateful I didn’t bite on it or swallow it because it is very hard and sharp.
As someone who work as a food safety consultant, I recommend the Mira Mesa Better Buzz company review their SSOPs and GMPs using appropriate HACCP protocols. Then review the information thoroughly with your staff to avoid injury and possible litigation in the future.
Somehow sharp broken plastic is getting into your drinks either during manufacturing from a product producer or in house. Wherever you make your drinks the area above and to the sides need to be thoroughly evaluated for broke shards of plastic. If something broke, find out why and how. Then decide what SSOPs and GMPs should be set forth to prevent this from happening on the future. Use HACCP, it saves lives. There are a boat load of amazing food safety regulators and contractors out there you can hire.
I really like your coffee and sandwiches. I was going to the one near the base before you opened the one near target. I just don’t want my family or anyone else to get hurt consuming...
Read moreThe coffee is the best part if they can get your order right. I use to come here all the time but after today I won’t be back. I placed a mobile order to avoid the linesman when I pick up my order it’s wrong and as I stand in line attempting to ask for a correction the young lady proceeds to have a full on conversation with her friend. Which I wouldn’t mind but it’s RUSH HOUR and there is a long line to the door of customers. I never addressed the error in the order because the lines were so long and she talked for so long with her friend. As I left I took a sip of the drink & it wasn’t slightly off but not the drink I ordered. Prior to taking it- I double checked the mobile order name. I noticed another customer waiting at the same time- to get their drink swapped as well. I legitimately don’t care if people socialize and I’m not a hard ass when it comes to service but time and time again the young staff have given me a wrong order and I’ve let it go. But this location has been open for a while and I’d like to think it would be better at service considering that it’s a popular coffee stop. It’s a great addition to Mira mesa but the location drive thru and the service will be...
Read moreFood is mid. Service is mid. Atmosphere is mid. Baristas are super nice though. They look stressed. However, I’ve seen a couple cockroaches there before and when I brought it up to someone, they said they knew, and that the district manager refused to get it taken care of. The also informed me on other “critters” that they possibly have. They didn’t want to say much due to possibly being in trouble so I understand completely. Sadly, while speaking to this barista, the manager seemed to give attitude, telling them to go do something else. I’ve had a job just like that before. Higher ups will refuse to take initiative even if it means closing the place down for a little which yes, means you won’t make money. Companies like this will prioritize that money over their employees health and safety and that’s what I saw that day. I refuse to ever eat or drink here again even if this were fixed that’s still downright gross and horrible to know about the things wrong in your workplace and refuse to fix it knowing your baristas are seeing that stuff every single day. They told me his name was Chris and they even gave me his email. I WILL be...
