My family and I stopped by at this place a couple of days ago from visiting the San Diego Zoo. My son and I are visiting my sister and her family and we had just spent the day at the zoo. We wanted to eat out of the park and my sister did a search on yelp and found this place.
We ordered the following dishes: Burrata Fiore di Parma, Ravioli in Rosa, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, Linguine Pesto e Gamberi. The Burrata appetizer was on point. I'm not a cheese lover, but the cheese in the appetizer was not sharp or strong in taste. It had a smooth texture. Even my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew who are all cheese lovers, enjoyed this dish. The cheese, Balsamic glace, cheese, and prosciutti balanced the bitter arugula taste that arugula naturally has.
In my personal opinion, the pesto dish had a tad bit more Olive Oil than what I would prefer but the pesto was on point. Overall, none of us were disappointed. My nine-year-old son is picky about eating any pasta dish and he loved the Bolognese dish. I liked that the ragu sauce on the Bolognese dish because it was not acidic. It had the right balance of red sauce with meat. I also sampled the Ravioli dish and the sauce was creamy and delicious.
Our server was attentive. My eleven-year-old nephew is also a picky eater and our server came up with several options of what they could prepare for him. We felt welcomed and were able to enjoy our meal without feeling pressured to leave. All of us were happy that my sister found this place after we spent the day at the zoo. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting from out of town and wants to enjoy a warm, delicious...
Read moreMy friend and I were craving Italian food and actually tried to go to Esca blu, which is temporarily closed. We found this place on the same street and it was truly a blessing in disguise. This was some of the most delicious Italian food I've tried here in San Diego (no exaggeration)!! Making a reservation is super quick via yelp. We were seated right away. The restaurant itself is small making the overall ambiance intimate and cozy. There is also a small outdoor seating area. The servers were all so sweet and warm. We came on a Wednesday and it's 30% off a bottle of wine so we definitely had to indulge! I definitely recommend this place and I will be back in the future. Food review: The complimentary bread was so soft and delicious. We ordered 2 baskets. Haha Primitiva wine: (5/5) This was recommended by our server and we were not disappointed. This was so delicious. We finished the entire bottle so fast. Burrata fiore di Parma: (5/5) The perfect blend of flavors. The cheese melted in your mouth and the prosciutto was delicious. I topped the cheese, prosciutto, and arugula on a slice of the complimentary bread. Yum! Lasagna: (5/5) They make their own lasagna in house. The sauce is amazing. This is some damn good food. It's interesting there were little carrots inside (I believe) which I've never had before but I didn't mind it. My plate was clean at the end of dinner. Tiramisu (5/5): (no pic because we devoured it) This is a well balanced dessert. It didn't have a strong coffee flavor like some others I've tried. It was light and super flavorful. We asked for some chocolate drizzle on top and it...
Read moreBLUF - An intimate, delightful restaurant with it's own style and unquestionably high quality food. Absolutely worth a visit.
Service - 5/5 Educated on the menu, delighted to educate guests on the menu, and absolutely happy to have you in their restaurant. The service was excellent, on time and on purpose, but not fussy or overbearing. You got the feeling from the entire staff that they were opening their dining room to you and you were an honored guest.
Personality - 5/5 This is how you differentiate yourself from the crowd. Create a stylish, unpretentious, intimate location that exudes comfort, and invite people in. This place is proud of its existence, and even prouder to offer you an opportunity to experience it.
Quality - 5/5 You can tell the food here is prepared traditionally, I swear there were only 5-6 ingredients per dish (except the lasagna of course). Everything we tried was prepared perfectly and simply, which made the fresh and herbaceous flavors shine through. This place sets the standard for traditional (from Italy) Italian food. Put everything else you have experienced out of your mind, this will be come the gold standard for all future comparisons. Not to be overlooked, their placard from the U.S. Italian Chamber of Commerce certifying them as having authentic Italian cuisine is just one more thing confirming that this place isn't a fluke, it is for real.
Recommendation - 5/5 I can't recommend this place any higher. It is worth the drive, worth the wait, worth the cost, an absolutely subtle and...
