Updated: I have now been to this place several times. My experiences have been mostly pleasant each visit. Visited for the first time since the pandemic and discovered a few changes. They no longer bring chips and salsa out to the table. They now charge for them. Staff is very kind, but extremely unorganized. Food items kept coming out one at a time so by the time everyone's food arrived, someone else's food was already cool. They didn't bring plates out for the parrillada until we asked for them. Extra napkins weren't brought out without being asked. The staff is ridiculously kind and fun. Not a knock on them, but I'm not sure if they were short staffed yesterday or if things just aren't being run as smoothly as before. Food was still delicious, but for the lack of parking, meals served in shifts, and having to ask for items it's not worth going back for me. First time visiting this place. Tons of seating both inside and outside. They offer a wide range of meal options (I had their milanesa which was delicious), so you're bound to find something to eat on the menu. Their michelada is delicious as well and comes with clamato and tajin and a giant cucumber spear inside it for an extra buck. Tortillas are handmade and fresh. Chips and salsa are good as well. They offer delivery via Door Dash. Only downside to this place is the parking. Plan on circling around a few times or parking a little bit away if the parking gods are not in your favor.

This place is a hidden gem of San Diego. The food is INCREDIBLE! It’s a must go to and kind of a little off the beaten path. Find it!! You will not regret. The quest fundido and fish taco (must get fried) were my favorites. The tacos are also very big. Not like east coast tacos. Just love this place! And they have an adorable outdoor patio. Margs were good Altho food is absolutely the highlight of this place! The staff was wonderful and gave recommendations / suggestions anytime we asked. Service was great! Side note - while we were sitting a homeless man came into the patio area. He asked for spaghetti and a beer. The staff handled him being there so well. They were so kind to him but removed him from the patio. They gave him a whole to go bag of food at no charge. I was very impressed with how they handled it - especially with COVID on top of it. I forgot to take a picture of the tacos but here is the queso fundido … so good!!!

Absolutely horrible place. We asked what cut of meat was used in their 2 steak dishes, but no one seemed to know. I ordered their top of the line $28.00 'Aranchera.' It was awful. It came cold, but more importantly, the ends were dry and discolored which signified stale, refrigerator burn. I returned my meal, and a man that was not my waiter gave me an attitude. Then, we waited, what seemed like forever, to get our check. We would wave at Linda, but she ignored us time and time again. Then my sister in law got up to ask for the check. We heard her say "Do you want to go or should I." Out of politeness, my husband and sister on law tried to eat their food. They left most of it. Wr should have known better because the place was empty at 7pm. (The picture is my sister in law's food.) TERRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE.

Ok first of all WTH. At first I didn't want to rate this place because I wanted to selfishly keep it all to myself but I decided to share my little secret and they tots deserve it. This place is so delicious that I literally crave it every day! It's so spectacular, that it's becoming a problem for my health and wallet. Luckily everything is so reasonably priced! After living in Mexico, I had a hard time becoming accustomed to the delicious yet unique flavor of San Diegan Mexican food. First, you walk in and they give you standard chips and salsa, except for it's not standard! It's bomb homemade, authentic spicy salsa!! Then, order their cucumber margarita with a delicious Tahin rim. Get it with Don Julio Tequila if you're feeling Fancy and ufffff OMG THAT MARGARITA IS SOOOO DAMN GOOD. El Comal has all of the classic Mexican favorites done well like pozole, tamales, tortas, carne en su jugo, sopes, etc..Their menu in general is to die for!!! And their Tortas. OH LORD THEIR TORTAS. They are seriously the most delicious thing EVERRRRR!! Their bread is mouthwatering and toasty on the outside and oh so soft on the inside slathered with delicious insides. I do not think I've ever tasted such amazing tortas. Everything from their tortillas, to drinks to salsa, to the food. Holy cow, this place is most defiantly Mexican certified! Best Service and best most authentic Mexican Food in the...

We've been coming here for years. I even spent a birthday here. After my experience last night, I will never go back again. Despite not being especially busy it took forever to get our drinks. We purchased chips and salsa and the chips were stale. After our food arrived my niece mentioned that her horchata tasted funny. I looked at my daughters glass and what looked like curdled milk was clinging to the glass. We set the glasses on the edge of the table in hopes that our server would come by. That didn't happen. After waiting too long my cousin just walked up to the bar and showed the bartender the glasses and explained what happend. Without any kind of apology, he simply said, "I'll let your server know". My cousin then asked well can they get a some water. The bartender again said, "I'll let your server know". We would have loved to let our server know but she was no where in sight. Then the manager/owner overheard this and and took two glasses of jamaica to our kids, also without an apology of any kind. When we were ready to leave, again our server was no where in sight so we had to walk up and ask for our bill. Our server finally showed up to bring us the reciept to sign. No one ever offered an apology or acknowleged in any way that they served rotten drinks to our kids. Drinks that could potentially make them sick. We paid our bill and...
