So after a week up in Romona working with a youth camp for church. My wife and 3 daughters decided to come surprise me for a family vacation after I was done with the camp. We both were excited when I remembered that Hob Nob Hill a restaurant we saw on Triple D (Diners Drive ins & Dives) with Guy Fieri. The menu item he featured was Chicken & Dumplings, none of us ordered this however we all ordered great food. I ordered Loco Moco one of my favorite dishes, back home in Las Vegas we have a restaurant that makes this with a twist instead of brown gravy they put a traditional Country Gravy (a milk based gravy with a roux to thicken up the gravy and sausage) so I asked our amazing server Angel, if I could sub it out for country gravy w/ sausage which she said of course no problem, My wife ordered an omelet which she loved. My Littles ordered as well (eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns); the other 2 ordered cheese burgers and fries. So all the food was delivered the gravy for my Loco moco wasn't a traditional Country Gravy idk what was different however it was closer to pink gravy not bad just different then I was expecting. We also ordered some yummy baked goods. These things are flipping amazing. All in all food was great (minus the funky gravy.) The entire experience was amazing upto this point. So I went upto the counter to pay Angel cameover and charged me out. I went back to the table to round up the FamBam. So as we were leaving we noticed a pastry case we didn't see when we were seated. So I go to the hostess podium where there was a hostess or server at the podium who looked at me and said "ill be with you in a minute im way to 1 of 2 words in-between Flipping or Fu@!ing busy", well i was blown away by this especially bieng there was only 4 or 5 tables (and im bieng generous with the # of tables and I'm including our table with this count. Anyways I tried to figure out her name, (who I later found out her name was Chrissy) well lets just say she said that to the wrong person, i just happen to be a retired Chef / Owner/Operator of restaurants in Las Vegas, NV, Chicago, New York, and Florida. So I waited at the Podium and Angel saw us and cameover, and asked if we needed anything else so I told her we didn't see the case with all these delicious treats so we also ordered some more pastries an éclair, and lemon bar with Toasted meringue ontop.
So all in all everything was pretty amazing minus the end of the experience with Chrissy. I've never been so disrespected as a paying guest.

Read moreWhat a delight to go back to Hob Nob after many years - for a Friday morning breakfast with a dear friend!
The remodel is great! Very modern and hip, in mostly black and white with two dazzling large chandeliers in the main dining room. The place is chic, yet still cozy, with booths (which I love), and an updated 50's diner counter, gleaming with stainless steel. A whole wall of beautiful liquor bottles in the lower level part of the dining room, too... Did they used to have a bar? Not sure.
The drink menu on the table, sounded yummy! If I had been on vacation (and not work mode), I might have had the "Peanut Butter Cup Martini" for $11: Screwball Whiskey, Coco liqueur, Creme de Cacao, half and half, and a peanut butter rim with crushed peanuts.
I ordered the 3 egg Bankers Hill omelette, which sounded unusual, with spinach, cream cheese, bacon and avocado....but happened to work perfectly with my current keto eating plan - and it was delicious! Even better topped with the in-house fresh salsa! The sides offered did not compliment my Keto Plan, so our server recommended broiled tomatoes. Honestly, I've never had a broiled tomato, and they were delicious! I washed it all down with a yummy cappuccino (didn't expect an espresso machine, at what I thought was an old style diner), but Hooray!
My friend ordered a small stack of pancakes, served with blueberry compote, but she personally prefers fresh blueberries and syrup, which they were happy to provide. She gobbled up every bite. She also enjoyed a couple over easy eggs on the side, which were tasty, and done perfectly.
The only thing that might have been a disappointment, was the coffee cake. It came as a third side with my omlette. But it was probably a blessing (nothing keto about coffee cake!), that it just wasn't what we expected. My friend and I anticipated a cinnamon-y sugar-y and gooey coffee cake.. When it was delivered, in the To Go Box (to ensure that I wouldn't eat it, but instead take it home to my son). What came out, was a white trangle sliced of single layer cake with a few raisins scattered in the batter, and white frosting on top. It didn't tantalize. And It's just as well, because I didn't need the extra calories! Hmm. Maybe they rotate their coffee cakes with a different one every day? I didn't ask.
The sad truth to end the story? I forgot to take the to-go box home to my son, so I'll never know what the coffee cake truly tasted like. Sorry Hob Nob! I'll give you another chance very soon!
PS They used to be famous for their Cinnamon rolls, so if you go to Hob Nob, please...
Read moreThe food has always been enjoyable when I come with friends and am able to share the large plates with them. I'm 4'6" & 90 lbs so, if they don't offer a lunch menu with smaller portions, I order off of the kid's menus at most restaurants when I dine by myself. It's usually not an issue as the company isn't losing out on anything, if anything they're selling a plate that they wouldn't have otherwise becauseI don't like wasting food or money.
I went to this location on 7/23 @ 2:30pm to have a solo lunch before an event in the neighborhood. A gentleman came up to greet me and what to grab a menu to see me. He noticed that the menus were disheveled so he decided to organize them before seating me. After standing and waiting for a while, he just told me to go ahead and find a table and he'd meet me with a menu. I took my seat and waited and watched as he finished organizing the menus. He finally brought one over to me and while looking it over, I remembered how large their portions were and they didn't have a lunch menu available so I asked for the kids menu. The gentleman helping me said that I'm unable to order from the kids menu. I said okay and then left.
I'll never understand a business putting an age limit on kids menus especially as big as some of these kids are these days. Are they worried about adults getting more food that they are paying for? Then decrease the amount of food for the kid's plates or increase the prices. But don't prohibit people from ordering smaller plates just because of their age.
It would be nice if the business owner or someone in charge could enlighten me as to why they restrict adults from ordering from...
