TL;DR
This spot has some serious flavour bombs—especially the egg sandwich and mango lassi—but the front-end experience needs major restructuring. Excellent customer service from the staff, but disorganized order flow, lack of layout clarity, and a stressful menu setup dropped my original 4-star rating down to a solid ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ and is now dropping to ⭐ ☆☆ ☆☆ due to price hikes since opening.
Overall Experience
The decor is charming, the space is visually inviting, and the background music adds a relaxed vibe. However, the overall layout and flow of the restaurant need serious attention. There’s no clear separation between the dining area and the ordering area, which creates confusion and a sense of overcrowding. Something as simple as floor tape or stanchions could go a long way in guiding customers and creating order.
The digital menu scrolls too quickly, making it hard for first-timers to follow along or make confident choices. The paper menu lacks pictures, which could easily help customers get familiar with the dishes. I even saw a few people walk out due to the chaotic ordering experience.
Despite these issues, the cashier and waitress were amazing—friendly, professional, and attentive. Unfortunately, they seemed overworked and understaffed. There’s space for more registers and clearly a need for more help, but the manager’s response during peak hours was to hover and micromanage instead of jumping in to assist. This only added more pressure instead of resolving the bottleneck.
With just a few adjustments—better queue organization, a slower digital menu, improved paper menus, and more support for the team—the customer experience could be completely transformed.
My Dish-by-Dish Critique
🥪 Anda Masala Sandwich
Described as “flavored eggs and veggies,” I expected scrambled eggs but was pleasantly surprised by a delicious mixture of seasoned boiled eggs, bell peppers, tomatoes, and paneer. It reminded me of a Japanese egg sando in all the best ways. The portion of the egg mixture was small, but the flavor was powerful and satisfying. I loved it so much I ordered it again on my second visit. Rating: 5/5
🐔 Chicken Masala Sandwich
This sandwich was a letdown in terms of texture. It had the same bread and base as the Anda Masala Sandwich (which was perfectly toasted and fluffy), but the filling resembled a soft, Indian-spiced chicken salad—something I didn’t expect. The flavor was good, but the texture was off-putting. Rating: 4/5
🍳 Egg Bhurji (with white bread)
Tons of flavor, but the egg taste was drowned out by the spices, even though we asked for it mild. The texture of the scrambled eggs was great, and I still enjoyed it—especially with white bread, which I personally prefer over roti for eggs. I’d order it again, possibly in a different style to see if that improves balance. Rating: 4.5/5
🍚 Bhurji Pulav
Basically the same egg bhurji but served with rice. Portion size was generous, and the price was fair. However, the cilantro was overwhelming, and the dish felt dry after several bites, even though it wasn’t technically dry. I think a side of raita or yogurt or even pickled onions would have helped bring this dish to life. Rating: 3.9/5
🥭 Mango Lassi
Perfect. Cold, sweet, tangy, smooth—everything you want in a mango lassi. I’d order this a thousand times over. That said, $5 is steep for the small portion. Ideally, this should be closer to $3.50. Rating: 5/5
Would I Come Back?
Yes—for the food. But only when it’s not busy. There are some serious winners on the menu, but the disorganized layout and lack of staffing turn what should be a chill experience into a stressful one. If they address those issues, this place could easily become a favourite.
Update* I went back to try it again, and found that everything has double in price since they open. That same Anda Masala sandwich that use to be $7 is now a whopping $12.99. The food was worth the price and the quality I paid for it 2 months ago, but at this price range and the quality that you get. It’s no...
Read moreI recently visited Eggoholic, a brand-new restaurant in San Diego, with high expectations. While the ambiance and decor impressed me, the food fell short.
Food Review:
Chicken Egg Roll: Unfortunately, this dish didn't quite hit the mark. The flavors didn't come together well, and the overall taste was disappointing. Vada Pav: A classic Indian favorite, but Eggoholic's version missed the mark. The dish was overpowered by non-Vada Pav masala, lacking the authentic flavor profile. Paneer Schezwan Sandwich: This dish was average, neither particularly impressive nor disappointing.
Ambiance and Decor:
The restaurant's interiors are beautifully decorated, modern, and well-designed. The ambiance is inviting, making it a great spot for a night out or casual meal.
Overall Impression:
While Eggoholic shows promise with its decor and new beginnings, the food needs improvement. With some tweaks to their recipes and cooking techniques, this restaurant could become a great dining destination. For now, it's a place to watch and hope for improvement.
Rating: 2.5/5 stars
Recommendation: Give Eggoholic another chance in the future to see if they've addressed their food quality issues. For now, it might be best to stick with other...
Read moreEggholic is an absolute must-visit for anyone craving authentic and flavorful Indian street-style egg dishes! I was thoroughly impressed by how perfectly they capture the genuine taste of Indian cuisine, making every bite feel like a treat. The real highlight of my visit was the lava Pulav. It was spectacular—a harmonious blend of perfectly cooked rice, tender paneer, and savory egg, seasoned brilliantly. The flavors were bold, complex, and spot-on for what I look for in a great Indian egg preparation. Beyond the incredible food, the overall experience was excellent. The service was prompt, friendly, and attentive, contributing to a truly pleasant meal. Best of all, the prices are incredibly reasonable, especially given the high quality and generous portions. Eggholic offers amazing value. If you love Indian food and haven't tried their specialized egg menu, you are seriously missing out! Highly,...
