The dessert shop near Aldi that specializes in egg tarts is absolutely stunning in appearance! This time, I tried their recently launched promotion: the "Random Egg Tart Blind Box." For $6.99, you get a box of four egg tarts, each with a unique flavor and its own distinctive design. The value for money is absolutely incredible! Unboxing it was such a delightful surprise—I couldn’t resist taking a photo before eating them, and I almost didn’t want to dig in!
Their egg tart shells are handmade and freshly prepared, not store-bought frozen ones. They’re crispy and flaky, and the filling has a rich, creamy milk flavor. The staff mentioned that the ingredients are healthy, low in calories, and contain no trans fats.
Flavor Recommendations: 【Espresso Egg Tart】☕️ Bold, bitter espresso meets velvety egg custard—every bite is filled with the sophisticated aroma of coffee! The top is slightly crisp, while the filling is soft and rich. The bitterness is balanced with a subtle sweetness, making it a truly grown-up comfort dessert!
【Taro & Salted Egg Yolk Egg Tart】💜 Silky taro paste paired with grainy salted egg yolk—double the richness! This perfect balance of sweet and savory comes with a crust that crumbles with every bite. The filling is soft, chewy, and aromatic—one bite and you’ll be hooked!
【Classic Golden Egg Tart】✨ Back to basics with perfectly restrained sweetness! The crispy, multi-layered crust envelops a rich, milky filling that’s smooth and not overly heavy. The flavors of egg and milk blend perfectly on your tongue—a must-try for egg tart lovers! Sometimes, simple and pure is the ultimate...
Read moreWe were excited to hear about the new egg tart shop in San Diego. We stopped in at Na Tart for the original Portuguese egg tarts and also tried the creme brûlée egg tarts. These egg tarts were sold out when we got there so we waited 20 minutes for the freshly baked egg tarts. The original Portuguese egg tart was spot on, hand-made, super flaky and crispy puff pastry with a delightful, light and savory, silky egg custard filing and French butter to enhance the flavor and texture. The creme brûlée egg tart was a disappointment as the torching needed more work and the creme brûlée flavor was definitely MIA. The creme brûlée topping was oozing out of the tart and made the pastry shell soggy, not good visually. Na Tart is new to the San Diego Asian scene and is trying to work through some growing pains like the workflow and tart presentation. It’s a small shop with no seating inside. There are 2 self service kiosks to place orders. There are varieties of tarts to choose from. Tarts are a bit pricey averaging $3.50 - $4.75 each but you can get small price break if you get the combo & set (example: 6 piece original Portuguese egg tart set for $20 and 1 piece is set for $3.50). They also serve beverages from Espresso to Mocha and even egg tart Affogato which consists of layers of flaky signature egg tart crumble, vanilla ice cream and expresso in one cup. We will probably not going to visit again in the near future but open to future visit again once they smooth out their growing phrase, tart presentation and perhaps improve price point so they can compete with the nearby...
Read moreI’ve had the original Portuguese egg tarts in Portugal and had to try these.
We were 5th in line and it took 20 minutes to take our order and another 20 to receive our order on the second day of Grand Opening.
They have 7 original flavors and 2 sunflower flavors. We got a box of 6 and I wanted one of each flavor but they didn’t have salty boy or crème brûlée. So I doubled up on original.
The sunflower edition has two flavors and it’s not part of the 6 combo. You can get one or a pack of 4. It’s just bigger.
6 pack: -Original x 2 - too eggy and thick -Espresso -the espresso over powered the custard but this is my fav -Taro - I scraped the top layer off -Ube cheese - I scraped top layer off -Chocolate boba - my fav, could taste the chocolate flavor blended w custard
-Cheese and corn Sunflower x 2:overs this series, it’s flaky, thin custard layer and more spread out, not so dense.
The outer shell is extreme flaky but the flavors were not all there. They’re not overly sweet. I could taste the bold flavor in espresso and chocolate boba. Tastes like flan. The taro and ube didn’t cut it for me. It was mushy and pasty.
The original was too eggy. It’s smaller in size than I’m used to so it’s thicker. I prefer the center to be thinner in height which the sunflower series represents.
The wait was long when they had flavors ready on display and could have easily taken it from there. Perhaps when the hype dies down, it’ll run smoothly...
