If you want weak drinks and even weaker service, then this is the place for you!
While the bartender was extremely unfriendly and even turned their back on me as I tried to order a second round of drinks, my chief complaint is with the karaoke DJ.
I walked in on a Friday night at 11:50. As someone who is a karaoke frequent flyer, I saw that it was extremely packed and immediately asked the KJ, "Is your list currently closed or open?" They were very kind and said, "I can get you in within the next hour, but please let me know if you leave." I told them what song I wanted to do, and proceeded to order drinks. The KJ's promise is the only reason my guest and I stayed. An hour goes by, and my name hadn't been called, nor was it coming up shortly in the next 4 songs.
So, I politely walked up to the KJ, asked when my song was coming up. They looked confused at his list and then said "oh I must have called your name already." I said "um no I was sitting here the whole time, and I didn't hear my name." They then said, "Oh I see what happened, you gave me the name of the song and I didn't have that one, so I put you in for (another song by same artist)..." So 1) I've been a karaoke host for 5 years, and that makes no sense. 2) Is the issue that I didn't hear my name or you didn't have the song? I got the sense that I was being played. As I walked away confused, a patron behind me innocently asked, "How much money did you give him to bump you up?" Ah, there's the rub! Now I see what's going on.
So here is what I think happened: this person wanted me to grease their palms in order to put me up. When I didn't, they probably thought I wouldn't wait and never put my song in. Unfortunately, that's the name of the game sometimes. However, I was trusting their word that they gave me when we initially spoke and I normally tip after my songs, based on how many I do.
The KJ put me in the queue. I sang about 15-20 minutes later and then promptly left. I really wish they would have been more upfront with me from the beginning instead of playing games to get more money from an...
Read moreI didn't know it was a "gay bar," if that is what you call them now-a-days, but apparently on a Sunday night, at these kind of bars (what ever you call them) people are supposed to act really uptight, but I didn't feel like acting uptight, and I was having so much fun, so they kicked me out, but I refused to leave until they let me sing a song, because it was karaoke night (which I guess is every night)--hopefully not the same uptight DJ as was there on super-bowl Sunday. But anyway I digress; I was having so much fun, but I was "Being too animated?!?!(WFT?)" is what the bouncer told me before he asked me to leave. But I said I bought an expensive 7 dollar drink, and gave a 2 dollar tip, so I expect to be able to sing a song before you kick me out of no reason. So they let me sing a song, "Stray Cat Strut," but the uptight (and very jealous) DJ, tweaked all the sounds to make it sound horrendous. as he does I guess for most non-local people, because I couldn't believe that a sound system can not purposely sound that bad. But other than that, I had a splendid time talking to Amy, the Aries (who probably thought I was gay) or her girl friends wouldn't have let me talk to her that long (they did pry her away from me and forced me out of their circle a few times when I tried to come back and say hi again), But if I ever came back, when that uptight DJ and uptight bouncer are there, I'd probably get kicked out again, if not beaten up, So it's safe to say, I probably won't go back nor I did, either. How does it get even better than that? What group of sweaty grown men throwing balls at each other played in that game this afternoon, I don't know or care. I'm not into profession male sports. I guess I'm a lesbian in a man's body, but that's not acceptable at...
Read moreI went on Friday August 22nd to celebrate my sister birthday. We were so excited to do karaoke as this was our first time & we looked forward to. Upon our arrival we went straight to the dj to sign us up and he told us it would be 2 hour wait. So we were just gonna stick around get some drinks and chill for a while. Then like 1 hr passed and i decided to go and see how far the list was and the dj disregarded my presence as i waited patiently. After the song was over i told the dj i would like to sign up and sing a song in Spanish and he said â we are only taking punk rock or pop rock songsâ and i was like but its a karaoke spot and theres no event that specifies that it was going to be a rock themed night. A lady that works there approached me and said âwell its the djs birthday and since hes working on his birthday he gets to choose what we play.â I was honestly shocked by that response and reaction from an employee. I responded with âwell its not my fault he didnt request the day off & now hes making these rulesâ & the female employee answered once again and said âits his birthday so hes not taking requestâ i was honestly upset for the fact that we were looking forward for a fun exciting night. I decided to just walk away and go to the back patio and enjoy the rest of our time there, disregarding what had just occurred for the sake of my sisters birthday celebration. At around 10ish i decided to head out and guess what song was playing âeenie meenieâ by justin Bieber. This was not a rock song and i feel like i was being discriminated based on my song choice. How is it that because its the djs birthday hes able to choose the genre of the night and not allow someone to choose the song they...
