I've eaten at a few Roberto Taco Shop's in San Diego. I used to frequent one in Lakeside pretty often. They had a great carne asada burrito. I had a few engagements in this area today and after they were completed I opted to go here.
When I arrived, I ordered a California burrito with the beef swapped out for shrimp. As i held the burrito and bit into it I noticed that the tortilla was firmly wrapped, the shrimp was just grilled and the fries were extra crunchy. I also noted that salt and pepper were used to separately season the shrimp before it was added to the burrito. This gave the meal much more soulful taste and made me feel as though the cook put good deal of his pride into making it.
After I finished eating and began preparing to leave the cook asked whether or not I enjoyed the meal. I simply told him the truth. "It was excellent", I said. Just then you could see pride glistening across his face as I helped confirm a job well done.
Overall I had a pleasant experience at this location. Definitely a good lunchtime burrito spot worth...
Read moreI've lived in this Neighborhood my entire life, seen many restaurants come and go over the last 40 years. I remember when this Roberto's used to be a Domino's pizza, little Ceasars pizza and a big John's take & bake pizza. They all came and went but Roberto's has stood the test of time due to their quality of food, portion size and hospitality. They have some of the best Tortas around and I'd highly recommend the carnitas one. If you're SUPER hungry go for the Carne asada fries WITH beans, you won't regret it and it might become a staple upon visiting. I'd also recommend their Surf & Turf burrito, its easily my favorite burrito on the list. The crew their is very friendly and service is quick. Give them a try and you'll be coming...
Read moreI had the carne asada burrito and I have to admit it wasn't great. I took my order to go and had my meal home and was tearing into it within 5 minutes of leaving. When I unwrapped my hefty burrito and paused in anticipation, liquid started leaking out of the bottom. Now I'm not talking a couple drops, more like the last thirty seconds of an oil change where you just kind of stand there waiting for it to stop, and wait...and ...wait. I got about half way through and had to chuck the rest. In their defense it was just a hair before 2 am saturday morning and a gaggle of intoxicateds were waiting on their orders so it was pretty busy and pretty late. I would recommend they ring out the ingredients a little better before the...
