I am a huge fan of Sahara taste of the Middle East! I've been eating at their original location in El cajon off the 94 and loved it, in fact it's my favorite shawarma in all of San Diego and I've tried them all including the famous food truck in South Park. Sahara is better!
So I have been asking them for years when they are going to expand closer to San Diego because their original location is about a 30 minute drive from where I live. My prayers have been answered, they opened up a new location inside of heights market on Adams avenue next to Jyoti Bihunga vegetarian restaurant (another excellent place to eat that I've been going to for many many years). Read moreIf they improved the seasoning of their food and were a bit speedier getting the fresh stuff out then this rating could be higher. Ordered all the specialty items and the best were the shawarma eggrolls. Tabouli was good. Baba ganoush needs work. The pickled turnips were terrible as they needed to be soaked but longer before serving as it was still crunchy, flavorless, and not pickled. Greek salad and Sahara salad are good. Their tzatziki and garlic sauce are fantastic. We will go back to try the other stuff and give it another shot but we are bummed cuz everything looks so good but taste needs improvement.

The woman making the food tonight was vigorously coughing over the wraps (her mouth was uncovered) she was making, so I decided not to order. Another women behind the counter asked me why not and I said “the woman making the food doesn’t seem well.” Her response was “she just choked”. Even if that was the case, why not step aside? Why not go and wash your hands?
