In the before days, I recall a truck serving up a similar menu, with the exact same business model, called Oceans 97. Mark Wiens reviewed it, I went and loved it. I don’t know the significance that the truck now says “57” on it, but gave it a go. First off, prices have gone up significantly, Being a food service person myself this is understood as food and operating cost have doubled since then. They are not greedy corporate overlords. To the contrary, I found the alacrity of service and hospitality lacking these days of disgruntled workers. My tostado loco was a bit different from previous visits, with three geenlip mussels and one diced oyster framing the oversized, two meal affair. The seafood was fresh and adequate- mostly resilient octopus, poached shrimp seasoned with tajine, and flakes of a sea bass like fish. This salpicon of sorts sported cucumber, red onion, and tomato in a way that seems un-unified to me. Let it macerate a bit more to break down into a more unified leche de tigre. Overall I enjoyed ( add that habanero salsa and a bit more lime). The oyster tasted off- and concerned me but did not suffer the revenge. The taco Gobernador was one of the better Ive had but $6?. PersonallyI think it used to have an edge up, but that was then. Four stars is still damned good, and in my...
Read moreI just had half of my mouth numbed up and I couldn’t really swallow very well on one side. So I picked something easy to eat. And I ordered ceviche. But when I went to order I could tell the person that took my order was laughing bc I couldn’t really talk or swallow so idk if I was drooling in front of her or not. There’s also a $.59 cent card processing fee which she could’ve mentioned before I paid since I had cash. The ceviche by itself was less than $8 though but it’s not a lot of food like she was making it out to be. Kind of skimpy for almost $9 all together but it’s mid bc it wasn’t that good. I liked the idea of it and it looks good but it’s alright for what you get. Not too bad but not excellent. If I didn’t have this issue where I can barely swallow food I would’ve gone somewhere else. Still tho if you have cash this is one of the cheaper options esp as a food truck. There’s NO seating out here lol but they provided sort of a gazebo area where you can stand near tables with hot sauce and a tv with reggaeton playing in the background of these tone deaf dudes singing to the same predictable beat pretending to play golf while fantasizing about women...
Read moreI had not been here since they moved to their new location in the parking lot near the liquor store. Prior to the move, the food was delicious, always great. Unsure if it was just a bad day but I went with a few people this past weekend and ordered a couple of different things. The aguachiles verdes were the only redeeming item, although I will say portion sizes in general are smaller after the move. The aguachiles negros tasted like they were bathed in a sweet bbq sauce to give it color but it was not enjoyable in the least. The camaron a la diabla tacos used to be some of the best, very filling full of flavor. This last time it tasted like the shrimp were cooked in plain water and then just mixed in with vegetables and a sauce. The shrimp had no flavor and were generally overcooked. The shrimp cocktail didn’t really have a flavor and the shrimp tasted like they were purchased precooked and then just defrosted at the moment. It used to be our favorite spot for seafood but now we’re not entirely sure we’ll be back which is...
