Shawarma Guys came up on Yelp’s “Best restaurants in America for 2019” list and Food & Wine’s “Top 10 U.S. Cities for food, according to Yelp” and immediately caught my attention.
Iraqi food has been refined to perfection over generations and Shawarma Guys does more than justice to an ancient and amazing cuisine. It sticks to its authentic roots and adds a rich American flare.
Shawarma Guys offers AMAZING food and has the most awesome people and customer service EVER. All the food is made out of high end ingredients, top tier meat cuts, and is all really fresh. I had the pleasure of hanging out with the owner who is super cool. Bryan makes his guests feel special as if you are invited to sit by the grill in his backyard and enjoy excellent food. You can tell he takes great pride and passion in what he is serving.
I told him I had heard the buzz and I really wanted to experience what his food truck was all about. He walked me through the entire menu and made some awesome suggestions. All of what I have tried so far is television and award worthy. If all the big names like Zagat, Thrillist and the Food Network shows are not visiting, writing and interviewing this spot, they are missing out!
The Wagyu Shawarma Fries and the Chicken Cream Chop Fries are both winners. The wagyu was mouthwatering, full flavor, and absolutely legit. The chicken was super tender and tasty. The fries are cooked golden to perfection. Both items are topped a signature house sauce which is out of this world.
The Falafel is made out of chickpeas and Mediterranean spices. They are perfectly crunchy on the outside, moist and full of flavor on the inside, paired with appetizing garlic sauce and outstandingly good hummus dip. They are just heavenly and absolutely a knockout. I have tried the best rated falafel joints in Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon and in the U.S. All the spots I have tried are not even a contender to the Shawarma Guys.
The Chicken Shawarma Wrap is an outstanding hit. This wrap was more of an experience then just a wrap. From the succulent marinated chicken, to the zesty pickled veggies, to the amazing garlic sauce, to the fresh pressed and toasted bread it was “WOW”
Sirloin Cap Beef Tikka is off the menu and might be only by special request. If they have some on hand and if you are lucky to order it, you’re really in for a treat. This tikka was impressive and unbelievably extraordinary. This dish absolute award winning status! The sirloin steak chunks were crazy juicy, flavorfully marinated, and delicious. It is BEST tikka I have ever ate.
I am really glad to see someone take middle eastern food to a new level here in town instead of just being another spot. This is definitely a San Diego gem. I am excited to try the rest of the items. If you stop by, you will definitely feel at home, and be thinking of this place non-stop after you try it for...
Read moreI was SHOOK at how delicious this place actually is.
As someone with Lebanese/Syrian/Armenian roots, I have high standards when it comes to any middle eastern food and restaurant. Most places skimp on the flavor and spices to appease the "western" palette, while others are lazy in the process of crafting the foods with the traditions that are needed to uphold quality.
Shawarma Guys not only keeps that flavor profile and preparation standards, but they also elevate it to a whole new level for Californians and foodies in general.
Staff was super friendly and offered great recommendations. First up - the Wagyu Shawarma Egg Rolls.
WOW. WOW. WOW.
The egg rolls are SO crunchy and crispy, and great sized. They are FILLED with juicy, crispy, soft flavorful shawarma meat, plenty of cheese, and the toum is perfection. Seriously, I could eat these every day.
Now for the California shawarma. I had no idea this thing was the size of a baby burrito, honestly I couldn't even finish it after eating the egg rolls, but man it was so damn good I would've finished it if I wasn't on my way to an event. This was filled with chicken shawarma, fries, lettuce, pickles, rice, garlic paste, tortila. Although it was excellent, I think it would be even more excellent with the beef shawarma. The chicken was soft and flavorful, the rice was amazing, crispy fries, fresh veggies, crunchy pickles, and again that amazing garlic paste.
Seriously, this place is a must on anyone's SD...
Read moreThis place blew my mind away! As Iraqi Americas my wife and I are always looking for good new Middle Eastern restaurants in San Diego and this is our new spot.
So my wife ordered a plate of falafel and we got a beef and chicken shawarma sandwich's. I was Skeptical when I read they use Wagu beef because there prices are so low. I was wrong that was the most tender beef I have ever eatin! It had a lot of beef and just right amount of pickles and sauce, after I took my first but the owner Bryan asked if I wanted some hot sauce and said no I didn't want to change the flavor of the sandwich, he Insisted and too my surprise he didn't come back with a bottle of Tabasco it was his own home made hot sauce and it was delicious! He also gave me some to take home for my eggs tomorrow . The chicken shawarma was amazing too my wife ate most of because I didn't want to share the sandwich.
Growing up I must be one of the only middle eastern guys out there that hates falafel until I tried these ones. You could tell they are not made buy a cheap powder sold at middle eastern markets. They were moist and had a really good garlic sauce on it and I had it with hummus it was amazing. The hummus didn't have that over powering Thani taste that most places have.
I'm so glade we discovered this place. I also spoke to the owner about catering after all it is a food truck, I can't wait to have them at one...
