OMG. Five stars for food, service and consistency. We first tried "606" (formerly Sun Hong Kong Cafe) during their soft opening and we've been back at least once a week ever since. The new management has taken handed-down family recipes and they have elevated the dishes without changing the essence of them. More important is that the elevated dishes are executed consistently and are on point and are always brought hot to the table.
Our favorites dishes so far have been the Salt and Pepper Pork Chops, the Salt and Pepper Fried Tofu (fried to perfection) and String Beans, the Shrimp with Baby Bok Choy in a garlic sauce, the wor won ton and the "Dry Fry Beef Ho Fun". The vegetables are always fresh, cooked until tender but still with some crisp to them. The shrimp are plump and cooked to perfection.
And if you like Hong Kong Milk Tea, this is the place to go. It's always made fresh and served hot. Perfect on a cool San Francisco day.
All the staff are fantastic. All of them are friendly and provide quality consistent service. And it speaks volumes when the staff is always receptive to feedback and then you see them take steps to tweak and improve their food and their service. They just started adding some dim sum items based on recent customer feedback. Great casual spot to...
Read moreI’ve dined here four times now and has become my primary option to bring friends to when they are in town. There are some really consistent factors: hk milk tea, dry fried beef ho fun, and honey walnut prawns have never let me down. Milk tea is strong and has a big milktea ice cube that keeps it from watering down during the meal. Ho fun has the smoky wok quality essential to the dish. Honey walnut prawns have a great ratio of meat to batter, with really great flavor too.
Unfortunately I do feel the seasoning of some dishes have been inconsistent and makes it hard to know if I’ll come on a good day or not. The crispy hk noodles were amazing the first time I had it, but too salty the next. Same with the salt and pepper fried fish and fried tofu. Those side dishes being on the saltier side was able to be balance with white rice but the crispy noodles was really disappointing that second time around. I asked the server if it could be remade but seems the sauce is batched for service. She offered some alternative dishes but we already had our mind set on it. That was very nice of her though! :)
Fingers crossed they can solidify their quality assurance process because I do love taking friends here and want them to have a great experience every time too!

Read moreMediocre taste, small portion, meh ambiance and not cheap either. For the same category of price, China Live (a few buildings over) is so much better (where you get quality food, good taste and great ambiance). However, the location of 606 is great and iconic… it’s a shame really, the new owner should do better than only relying tourists, who don’t know better and would settle for anything, as customers. Sadly tourists will go home with a mediocre souvenir of Chinatown if they dine at 606 restaurant.
We had their signature spicy garlic chicken and dry beef ho fun: chicken has good appearance but super tough, ho fun had at most 5 slices of beef and it was super bland. Both were small in quantity.
The ambiance is cafeteria-like, so is the laminated one page menu; no table cloth, cheap chopsticks and utensils. Such a shame really, does not match their high restaurant pricing.
I believe the high rating for this restaurant is not genuine ratings; I fell for it and wanted to give this new owner a try, am truly disappointed.
Hope the owner will do better job in creating a good Chinese restaurant at one the most iconic location and building: better and fresher food, menu, ambiance:) I will be happy to change my rating if...
